He was inducted into the SAINTS HOF this year. Not the NFL HOF.

Without a doubt, absolutely deserves to be in the Saints HOF. You must be one of those new '06 fans.

Slapdick.

I will never forget how unbelievably happy I was when we won that first playoff game... he gets in for that reason alone. Perfectly happy for him to be there.

Thread not going how you expected huh?

I still feel the same as I did when it was announced.

quote:

What a tragic QB tale. The Ditka era brought us a QB rotation of unforgettable names with forgettable performances. The most memorable being Kerry Collin's off the field issues and Billy Joe Hobbert's golf swing. The on the field highlights were Danny Wuerffel's helmet twist and 0 TD - 3 Int mark tying Doug Nuessmier's stats from the previous year.

Enter a new regime headed by Jeff Blake. An actual NFL QB who lead us to good wins with a penchant for the long ball. Then in a quick plot twist he is injured and fans are distraught. Enter our hero. An Unknown. The little guy. A guy you can root for. Aaron Brooks. Who's arm and athleticism combined with Joe Horn to set Saints franchise records and lead us to our first NFL Playoff win in franchise history. A star is born and a city rejoices.

Then, a new contract is executed and mediocrity is put into play. Endless 8-8 seasons seem to be the norm and the running QB with intensity now only smiles as he throws backward passes to the other team.

Then opportunity comes in the wake of tragedy as Katrina forces the team out of it's home and city looks to it's gridiron hero's for salvation. But finds nothing but disinterest and disdain from the former hero. Which goes to prove the old axiom...

As for the OP's question, his stats make him worthy, but his memory does not. I think he could be added and people could not really argue that he doesn't belong. But it will probably only make people dislike him more.

quote:

#'s as a Saint

82 games started
38-44 overall record
1,563 completions
2,771 attempts
56.4% completion rate
19,156 yards passing
120 passing touchdowns
84 interceptions
209 sacks
340 rushing attempts
1,410 yards rushing
13 rushing touchdowns
1 reception (which he threw to himself)

In Saints history, he's 3rd in completions, attempts, and yards.
Brooks is 2nd in touchdown passes.
And he has 13 rushing TDs, second among QBs to Archie's 18.
