Why was Yahoo Finance asking Drew about kneeling?

Keep in mind this was a Yahoo Finance interview that was supposed to be about franchising businesses.

As you know, Drew is a business man with vested interest in Jimmy John's and Walk-Ons.

Pretty fricking terrible to ask him a direct, unprompted question about protesting. This is a great way to get moderate celebrities to never go on these shows.

It was a fair question with a fair answer IMO.

Fair answer, yes. Fair question? Nope. It was an intentional setup, because this reporter does not like Brees' position on this. He knew he would receive the same answer or else Brees would look inconsistent and fake. This was all by design to create this firestorm as a big FU to Brees for being rational.

It was absolutely a bait job. But he got what he wanted. He got a story.

He was asked what his responsibility was as a leader in the midst of all of this and the likelihood that we may see more kneeling during the season.

He knew Brees would volunteer information that wasn't even a direct answer to the question?

That dude is the greatest interviewer of all time if you believe that.

Full disclosure, I haven't listened to the entire interview. Only the full clip of Drew's answer, which again is a fair answer.

I've just heard numerous interviews where someone is brought on for something and either at the beginning or end they'll be asked something like, "since we have you here and you are [something], what are your thoughts on [something related to their profession or area they're from]?"

If that's not how it went down, then I definitely stand corrected.

This is true. Look at this tweet the interviewer put out BEFORE the interview:

quote:

LIVE at 11am on @YahooFinancedot com:
@drewbrees joins the show. there's... a lot to ask him about. tune in.

this author went back and found every player that was anti-kneeling back in 2016, and went after them for a quote..

Brees gave him one

He didn't ask Drew what his thoughts on kneeling were. He said it's very possible that we'll see more kneeling when football starts, and he asked Drew what is his responsibility to his team as a leader of the team. Nowhere did he even ask what Drew's opinion on kneeling was.

Drew could have answered that in all the cliches you always see, and it could have still been a very direct answer without ever giving his opinion on kneeling.

That being said, his opinion on kneeling shouldn't draw 1/100th of the outrage that it did, that IS stupid.

We all have opinions here, I think it's blatantly reaching to think the interviewer was setting Brees up. IF he was, he actually would have just come out and asked what his opinion was on kneeling, there was no way he could possibly know or think Drew would say that given the actual question, especially since Drew was praised for how he handled kneeling 4 years ago.

wasn't Brees praised pretty much for how he handled the kneeling of the London game as the leader of the Saints?

Agreed. I'm just curious why we're mad at the interviewer? Doesn't seem like it was a slanted question. Drew's answer was fine. Seems like the people who can't handle Drew's answer are the problem here.

Folks are just protecting their guy.

In fairness to some, one guy posted a quote from Twitter that directly said Drew was asked his opinion on kneeling. So some folks havent' seen the interview just assume that was the question because others are portraying it that way.

Just a lot of misinformation.

it wasn't. Especially when you consider how Brees was praised for handling kneeing 4 years ago, there was no possible way the interviewer could know this would happen.

That's a bingo.

Well that certainly changes things. Now I see why people are pissed at the interviewer.

ETA: but the interviewer's post interview actions are the problem, not the question.

Luckily even some POC can see through the bullshite.

quote:

You’re getting a pass on all this @readDanwrite and it’s upsetting. At a time the country is dealing with true injustice you’re wondering about freaking kneeling. Brees is thoughtless. You knew what you were doing.

The bigger question is why did Drew answer? I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion and you shouldn't be crucified for it, but how do you not know answering that question would backfire. Especially in the environment we live in today. With everything that is going on, no matter what you believe, the timing of that answer is that of an ignorant person.
