I think you just have to give credit to the washington D though. They've been playing very good D lately. They were amped up for this home game and the elements greatly favored them.
I'm not too worried about the running game yet

the sloppy field contributed as well IMO
This had a lot to do with the outcome of the game IMO. WASH not covering the field played a huge part in "leveling" the playing field. No excuse for the field to be in that bad of shape.

me neither. Now, if this happens 2-3 games in a row i will be worried.....but just looking for simple, correctable/variable reasons that were a factor today.

My thoughts exactly. The Redskins definitely played their best game today. Their D-line was just blowing up off the ball. Our O-line was getting pushed back on most of our running plays.

Some guy used the name O.C. if I heard right and said the Saint's have no running game and said they will go nowhere in the playoffs without a running game. Bobby jumped on him and Deke said you don't have to prove a point to this idiot he is a Falcon's fan or something like that.

gotcha. Saying they have no running game is definitely off base. Just wondering why it looked off today, esp in crucial 3rd and 1 plays.

Well, we didn't really establish the run early on. We went to screens which paid off.
We sucked at 3rd and 4th and short because we are running drawn out plays, and they are a solid defensive team. Their entire DL is pretty damn great.
That said, our OL didn't play with a mean streak and we got behind and couldn't stop their offense, so we weren't runnin it like we usually do. Plus Bush was back and wasted a few rushing plays as usual.

el tigre,
IMO it was a lot of things:
1. Nicks looked drunk out there. Hard to exaggerate how bad he played and yes he was up against Haynesworth but he didn't look anything like the guy who handled Wilfork last week.
2. Sloppy field makes it borderline impossible to get any sort of a push for a traditional power running attack. Because of this we tried a lot of traps and counters (stuff we used to do) as opposed to hat on a hat runs. That stuff doesn't work when you got Haynesworth knifing through and blowing stuff up.
3. No matter how much we wanna hate on him for clowning around after the play, Laron was back to his old days. He was cleaning everything up and was basically a 4th LB all day.
4. Getting behind early makes it difficult to run the ball. Hell we were behind the entire game.
5. They basically wanted to put the game into Brees' hands (which I agree with). Everyone plays us thinking you hafta stop Brees. Well the biggest key (IMO) is to stop the running game. When Brees can playaction off the run, he's the best in the game. When he's throwing 30-40 times a game he'll have some great games but he'll also make some mistakes. You can't let us be two-dimensional. When your opponent is bringing down its safeties into the box, you gotta check out of the run and go overtop (Meachem vs. Laron
). So basically we never got in a rhythm running the ball.
