I think Rattler should get the start Sunday and here is why:

1) The fans want him. DA needs the fans to be excited and many more will be if Rattler starts. No I am not saying that the fans should dictate all decisions but in this case, they should. If Rattler goes out there and sucks, they can point to the fact that he was the fan favorite.

2) He has the higher ceiling. If things align and he is ready for the moment, there is a chance that Rattler could be the next Russel Wilson or Brock Purdy or whoever else you want to compare as a late round pick that became a starter.

3) If Rattler does suck, they can always switch to Haener and say "Hey, we tried but he wasn't ready." Haener is the safer choice and based on how he played in mop up duty, you feel like you have a guy that can run the system. If they start Haener and he sucks and then they put Rattler in and Rattler plays well, the fans will point to how dumb DA is and how Rattler should have started from the jump.

I'm sure Kubiak will make that decision, not DA. I am equally sure it will be with an eye toward winning the game or games they expect Carr to miss rather than some nebulous future potential.

All that being said, I do hope Rattler gets a shot because I think he could turn out to be really good.

To me it depends on how much time Carr is going to miss. If it is more than 2 weeks, I might just start Haener the next two weeks because of the short amount of time to get ready and the injuries to OL.

After that if Haener isn't it, then hopefully people like Ruiz are healthy and the OL is in a better spot, you start Rattler the rest of the time with more time to prepare and see what you have in him.

Saints might be in a spot to draft a QB next year, so you want to see what you have in Rattler

You’re saying that the fans should be able to pick out the starting QB of an nfl team???

Think about what you’re saying for a second

I mean if you don’t think FOs take into account want the fans are thinking you’re crazy. Ultimately the fans pay the bills.

There would be way less coach firings if it weren’t for outraged fan bases. It’s rarely ever smart to start a rookie qb but it happens numerous times every year because that’s what the fans want.

The saints FO on the other hand doesn’t give two shits what the fans think

Thats not really what I am saying. What I am saying is that in this particular case, we have 2 VERY unproven options at QB. One option has the fan support so it'd be the better play for an unpopular coach. If the unpopular coach makes the "conservative" decision to start Haener and it doesn't go well then the fans will be up in arms even further that DA is too much of a puss to be a winner. Its not a huge risk either because the other option is also a guy with almost zero experience so its not like playing him is any sort of guarantee to be better. At this point, DA needs to play the political game to try to survive to be the HC next season. If he plays Haener and it doesn't go well, the writing will be on the wall.

DA will do the exact opposite of what the fans want. Surprised he didn't apologize to the Panthers and Cowboys for beating them.

So let's ruin possibly a good QB because he's going to play behind an injury riddled offensive line, subpar WRs, and TEs who've amassed 200 yards total after 5 games and after 2 games fans will say we still need a QB in the draft.

I'm so glad you aren't our GM.
