You’re right. The rule is they kill the play if there’s too many men on the field. The first giants-patriots super bowl revealed that loophole.

Hmmm article never mentioned an NFL rule added because of it either.

No, all you need to do is tackle, hold grab every potential receiver and keep three safeties back. That would have taken at least five seconds.

Penalty is five yards, mark it off and then defend the goal line because its the last play.

Interesting discussion and it could work. But could you imagine the backlash if they do that twice, then they make a long field goal or score somehow on a Hail Mary that you allowed enough field position to be possible?

Not enough time to do it twice.

10 seconds left. That play would take at least 5 seconds.

You either throw the quickest out on the planet and pray time doesn't roll to zero or try the long FG.

I can give a rats arse about what the internet thinks.

That strategy will now result in unsportsman like penalties per NFL rules

Yeah, it's an unsportsmanlike penalty and they reset the clock to where it was pre snap.

Chip was a genius though.

What if we just held Diggs and Thelien while on their route to take them out of the play?

Bracket the other receiver to make it seem like we weren't trying to manipulate the clock?

Does illegal participation get called pre snap or after the play? If is after the play, that adds some more thought.

Excellent idea

Take the short yard penalty in exchange for time

Tackle and don’t let go of their receivers and give their Qb lots of time

He probably won’t throw it away for quite some time
