re: Why don't we talk about Safety as a need more?

Too many holes and poor cap management should keep this team from mortgaging future picks to slightly improve their current pick.
I totally get that, that's why I asked the question instead of suggesting we actually do it. I do think there's a pretty big difference between mortgaging a 3rd or 4th than there is a 1st or 2nd. And our scouts haven't just been scouting the '24 class, they're scouting the '25 one too. Maybe they think it's not nearly as deep in rounds 3 or 4 next year.
Again, I'm not suggesting we do it, because I don't know enough about the guys still left. And I know most people disagree with the Saints overall philosophy. Especially in the early rounds because we've just been so bad at it. If we'd hit on Davenport and Penning, I think there'd be a completely different opinion on it.
But I do like the aggressiveness of identifying an actual human being and going and getting them with conviction. Next year's 3rd is not a person yet, it's just an abstract number. If they really love DeJean or Jenkins or Coleman or Fiske or whoever, I'm fine with them giving up next year's abstract 3rd rounder to go up and get the actual human being available and going ahead and getting him in the building. Again, though, I'm talking about a 3rd or 4th. They've fricked up trading away future 1sts and 2nds to give them the benefit of the doubt there.

I haven’t heard chalky. But they are also always very reactive & never proactive. Would be nice to have all the draft picks on the roster that they gave up for Olave. What a shitty deal

there are gonna be a few guys who can play the position the way allen wants it in the second, but that pick may be a bit high. not that it seems to bother our front office.

Cause Gayle, Mickey, and Dennis are stupid.

We typically draft and develop extremely well at safety. Pretty good at identifying free agents too.

So much 2-high looks mean the position is simplified somewhat. Lots of guys can play back in a 2-high system.
The on the line SS guys are now LBs or not in the league, for the most part
Bingo. You’d be surprised how many starting safeties in the league were taken in the third round or later. It’s quite a lot of them

Yep. If there's one position group I fully trust DA with it's the secondary.

I want the Air Force safety late in the draft

I wouldn't trust Dennis to know what 2+2 is.
