Moreno has plenty of bust potential in my opinion. He may end up being a solid player, just not for the Saints. Don't see him filling any voids.

if the Saints decide to go RB, I'd rather them trade down, add extra picks and take Donald Brown
I always forget about this guy. How did his combine turn out? Did he have his pro day yet?

I agree with this, we already have Bush who is the better version of Moreno in college.

i keep hearing nothing but good things about Brown...ran a 4.52 at the combine, is a workhorse, faster than Moreno and is suppose to sneak into the 1st

I could hop a ride on a 2nd Rd Rashad jennings or 4th Rd Andre Brown bandwagon

i like them too....also we should look at Ringer in the 4th

I read on yahoo that Wells ran sub 4.4 at his pro day. I don't think we take an offenseive player here but, that's a great time for someone 240.

quote:Folks keep making this baseless claim and its simply untrue. Even in college, Reggie's highlight reel was 'dance a step, bounce outside' ( and why many folks, including myself, knew he wouldn't be a real RB in the NFL ). The only inside runs he had, the USC lines opened up like the red sea. Check his highlights if you doubt it.

Moreno, on the other hand, runs *extremely* well inside & in traffic. The tapes don't lie; Moreno runs in between the tackles infinitely better than Reggie ever has.
Numbers don't define the player. You can't look at Reggie's numbers alone and understand how he out ran folks to the outside in college on a good team in a weak conference, nor does the stat sheet show how Moreno got the yards he did with tons of injuries to the UGA Oline. Ya gotta look at the film and the film completely disagrees with ya.

If you're drafting Brown or McCoy, you have to take them in the late first to second round, and Jennings in the second to third, so you're not really saving 'pick value' by going with a lesser back on the board than Moreno or Wells.
Take a look at their film. Brown is pretty much a Well's clone and can be tentative in the hole. Jennings has almost no lateral movement or questionable vision ( is he not seeing the hole / cutback or can he just not get there? ). LeSean McCoy is the most impressive of those three, with some fumbling concerns. McCoy is a lesser Moreno; no sense to take Moreno-light in the same round that you can take the real thing.
Game replays & Youtube are your friends; use them.

i'm with you Relocated Pelican. The only comparison that Moreno and Bush share is their size. Moreno runs like a man and Bush should be on Dancing With the Stars

again, I'd like to trade down and take Brown

Moreno is 5'10, 210 and runs a 4.6.Uh, no thanks.

quote:I seem to recall a running back that was 5'8", 203 lbs, and while his college reported a 4.37 40, he didn't workout at the Combine and was later estimated to being closer to a 4.57 40, becoming infamous for being caught from behind. I bet you wouldn't have wanted him either, huh?

a reported 4.37 and "estimated" 4.57 is a big difference.
Moreno hasn't broken 4.6 at the combine or his pro day. As for the inside running, don't blame the O-line, they get a bad rap every year at UGA and Moreno had three years to play to prove himself behind all those lines. In college Bush ran up the middle the same way Moreno did. I will freely admit that Moreno is more willing to put his head down and take a hit, but to say they are completely different is just as asinine as saying they are exactly the same.
They are similar and Moreno doesn't bring much to the table that Bush doesn't already provide.

Picking Moreno over Wells would be plain stupid. Wells is way bigger and performed in college just as well if not better than Moreno. Wells is as fast if not faster and is way bigger. We could use Wells as a big back to Pierre Thomas and hopefully play Bush more at WR. We would have an outright unbelievable offense that could score a ton of points and actually put in long drives with some sort of running game(to help eat the clock with a lead). We just signed some guys at CB and S. I think the biggest concern on defense is OLB, but I am doubting whether at pick 14 there is a guy that fits. OT could be a nice pick, but we did just give our RT a 5 year deal so I doubt it happens.

He bounces it outside A LOT for a big guy though
So does Adrian Peterson
Note: I'm not comparing him to Peterson so calm down

Was the back I was referring to not constantly ran down from behind, so much so that even in his autobiography he mentions his teammates picking on him for it? He is/was well known for lacking *any* sort of breakaway speed. Quickness, on the other hand, is a different story altogether...
UGA had 23 - count 'em, 23 - season ending injuries, and you don't 'count that'? Moreno redshirted his first season and is going pro now after his sophmore year, fyi. He gained 1334 yds @ 5.3 ypc & 1400 yds @ 5.6 ypc, respectively, 53 career receptions @ 12.2 ypc, totally 30 rushing TDs & 2 receiving, in the SEC, on an injury plagued team that faced, amoung others, the two past CFB National Champions.
Find me videos of Bush pass blocking or running up the middle, in traffic; I have not seen any to this date ( when the hole is literally 5+ yards wide, that's not 'in traffic' nor 'like Moreno' ). I can only assume that you've never watched footage of either of the two backs play; their moves in space, outside running & receiving are simliar ( though Bush is more just side to side & stutter while Moreno adds more direct runs with stiff arms, spin moves, and hurdles ), inside running is as different as the Pope and a male cross dresser on Burbon Street. Moreno is a RB, in every sense of the term, whereas Reggie is not.
