RB Travaris Cadet

Doesn't contribute much at all as a regular back. Cooks fits better as a Bush/Sproles "get it in space" player, and is the more electric return guy (if used there, he might not as a 1st rd pick).

Travaris Cadet
Have you been following the team this off-season?

CSP has said more than once they like him in a Sproles-like role.

I think Cooks will see some plays like this, but the guy is a WR. He's a waste if he just lines up in the backfield. It easily will be recognized as a pass play

Yea I agree Lester. He will see some action out of the backfield, but he will be lined up at WR 90% of the time.

And for that reason, Cadet isn't in danger if losing his spot IMO.

You have to be on the list to be taken off it.

Toon is safe unless he gets hurt.

Payton talked up Toon while discussing the Cooks pick, so I'd think he's safe

Cooks won't line up as a back, but can run those routes as a WR (especially in 3 WR formations). Cadet lined up as a back isn't gonna make the D fear the run, so they would expect him to run that route.

Besides, the Cooks thing is really just incidental. Unlike the rest of our backs (and prior free agent backs like Ivory), Cadet has never really done anything to make you go "wow this guy is a weapon". He doesn't embarrass you, but he also doesn't impress either. If he does something this year, great. Otherwise, he's easily replaceable by the next free agent pickup.

Cadet's biggest strength is pass catching. He's not that impressive as a runner or returner. He could step it up this year, but I don't see him as a lock by any means.

Why do you guys hate Toon so much? He was injured his rookie year and last year he looked great in the preseason and had a bad game against the Jets and didn't play much after. If he sucks this year ok, but I'm willing to give the guy this year to prove it, especially since he looked really good in preseason.

hmm, Storm Johnson (RB, UCF) with maybe a 5th or 6th? I remember him looking ok in the games I watched, and he'd almost be a PT replacement-to-be.

Still on my "get rid of Cadet" campaign; we need a higher ceiling on our backup RBs

Yeah, he could barely crack the lineup over an ineffective Moore.

Yes I know.... Same with Sproles though. He had 230+ receptions, compared to 188 carries while in New Orleans. On average, that's 62 carries a season, or 4 carries a game. That's a RB that is primarily a pass catcher.

Cadet is the only RB on the team with a diff skill set than the others, and it's a skill set CSP likes to use.
