Benson before the late-life mental decline would hire people and let them do their jobs. But if the jobs weren't getting done, he'd fire them. He cut ties with Bill Kuharich after he had been with the organization for 14 seasons because they went 7 consecutive years of missing the playoffs after Kuharich took over for the late Jim Finks as GM.

Benson, not Loomis, fired Haslett after the '05 season despite Katrina providing a built-in excuse for a 3-13 season. They had missed the playoffs 5 years in a row at that point, and that was the end.

Loomis has unlimited power because the widow has no clue. Allen may get fired at the end of the year but Loomis isn't going anywhere. And that's the difference. It will be 4 years in a row without a playoff berth, but do you think Loomis going anywhere any time soon? He'll pick the next head coach.
