If the saints can cap this off by signing clowney we really need to give payton and Loomis a lot of credit. They addressed the weaknesses of this team in the offseason. Interior o line(although I’m not convinced about peat), a veteran presence in the secondary(regardless of off the field stuff), janoris jenkins(he was at the end of last season so I’m throwing him in since he had a full offseason to work), a number 2 receiver, and now possibly another edge rusher. They also drafted another young linebacker that can learn from Davis. Really think this is the year. It’s a damn shame fans won’t be able to be in attendance the way they should. This team has really improved its depth and I’m ready for the season.

Sadly a lot of folks will just talk about the rapist on the helmet situation at practice. Thanks for posting about actual football.

I’m pumped. I don’t watch sports for their politics so I don’t really give a damn what they do. This team is stacked. One final ride in Brees last season.

Even without the potential addition of Clowney, this is still the most talented Saints team on paper in the franchise’s entire 54-year history. It’s incredible how they keep upping the ante of being “all in” year after year, as they try to get that elusive second ring for Drew & Payton.

Agreed. I was telling a friend the same thing. The saints have never had so much talent on their roster.

They’ll just waste this season too like they always do. Outside of 2009, this team is full of chokers across the board.

Expecting anything different is pointless and not worth getting your hopes up.

Oh yeah, and they honor rapists.

The whole "honoring a rapist" thing is a big strawman. His name was on the helmets because he's a black man who the players feel was wrongfully shot simply because he was black. They don't condone rape and you all know it

That is such a willfully ignorant statement. You think the cop shot him ONLY because he was black?? That’s an asinine statement and doesn’t make any sense whatsoever

he wasn’t wrongfully shot, and he WAS a rapist

Neither do I but the NFL, players and executive forced political bullshite down my throat. frick the NFL and the saints and drew brees can go pound sand and take the next plane to San Diego permanently.

If you have an ounce of ethics and morality, you can’t support pro sports at this time.

Im not making that argument I'm just stating what the players think. That being said there are absolutely instances where police treat black people differently than if they were white but thats besides the point. The point is that him being a rapist has nothing to do with why his name was on the helmets.

The fact that he was a rapist makes the thought of ‘honoring‘ him absolutely despicable

How can you, and many others, NOT see that?

Does the fact that he’s black outweigh the fact that he raped someone? Is that the hill that everyone wants to die on?

Hypothetical for ANYONE to answer:

say the NFL had a ‘suicide awareness month’, should they honor Jeffery Epstein’s memory in the same fashion that they did for Blake? Why or why not? Will anyone that supports the memorial of Blake answer this question honestly?

And yes, I know epstein didn’t kill himself.... but let’s just say he did

If a white guy did what Blake did...I really don't think white people would want his name on Saints' helmets.

Signing clowney is a horrible move. Will play 7 games max and not practice most weeks

Rape is despicable everyone can agree on that. I'm certain the Saints players don't condone rape and I'm sure if they had known he was a rapist they wouldn't have honored him in that way.
