I think that was 47 yrs ago but who's counting.

ETA. My son was born 11/8/86 and the first thing I told my wife was that he was born on the 16th anniversary of Tom Dempsey's 63 yd FG, and she wanted to slap me.

My mum was a saints cheerleader at the time. She retrieved the record Tom Dempsey ball after it went through the goalposts and tried to hide it underneath her pom poms before security came to take the ball from her. Almost owned a piece of Saints history.

I was watching, and couldn't believe they were trying the kick. The ball seemed to be in the air forever

I was there that day. Remember so well - the stadium went so quiet we heard the holder call for the snap, his foot impact the ball & 63K fans inhale before the pandemonium broke out ..... & yell for the Dixie man.
