I am not happy with our start, but I am not in a panic mode as yet. Having said that, I think that it is obvious that we need to part ways after this season with some high priced vets who just do not deliver. Of whom do I speak? Will Smith/mostly hype, Sedrick Ellis/bust,Roman Harper/undersized linebacker, Johnathan Vilma/ costs too much, Mark Ingram/ Pierre is much more productive and cheaper,Devery Henderson/love this Tiger, but it is time to go. We need to get some top wideouts before Brees if finished, and almost the entire defense could use upgrading. Either Spags is incompetent or we have some serious dopes on our defense.

Can't retool as long as we are paying Brees his money. We will have several down years trying to re build.

...and not re-signing Sed Ellis would free up another 7+ million.

You are in panic mode. You suggest we cut six players, 4 first rounders and a second rounder. Do you think we can replace that many players with better/more talented players?

And why cut Devery? He's injured right now, but he's been solid for 20-30 catches a year which is all they ask him to do.

Retool? You mean re build?

That ship sailed when we paid Drew. If we wanted to re build now, we would have traded him. But that would mean that we concede that the window for winning another SB with Drew is closed.

I think that we can trim away some salary for players who aren't that productive. For starters, let's sign Mike Wallace. Brees must also be willing to chip in some bucks if needed, and I think that he will. I still think this season can be good.

..little of both in there. 5 DBs and you leave smith open. frick a play book, start them off with some "where's waldo?" books.

We did not have a 1st or 2nd round pick this past draft

So that does not help when trying to improve your team

I'm not sure about that. Drew followed his agent's advice and left NO money WHATSOEVER on the table for the Saints front office to keep.

Drew MAY previously have been willing to donate money to the Saints front office, but, maybe after he heard that the coaches might have been paying Defensive players for "cart-offs" and the like, Drew changed his attitude. Maybe after he heard the NFL's accusations, Drew decided that he'd better watch his own back, because the Saints were not watching his back.

Who knows? What we DO know is that Drew drove a hard bargain and got his deal. Too bad that left a lot less money towards salary cap.

Brees has absolutely little to no protection every time he drops back. De La Puente and Strief have been absolutely atrocious, Bushrod is quickly losing any leverage he had for a new contract. Aside from Grubbs and Evans, we really need to start with the offensive line.

As for defense, it begins at OLB. We are being torched to the outside. I certainly hope that we can restructure Will Smith's deal, or perhaps bring in an elite pass rushing threat for the right side. Perhaps even activate Akiem Hicks on the inside with Bunkley. As for S, we really need to stop putting Jenkins and Harper out of place. Keep Roman close to the los and let Jenkins play center field.

Cut everybody with a bald head or grey head. Instant cap space.
