Why'd it take so long for him to evaluate Harper?
Jenkins?
Scott frickin Shanle?

He was solid up until about the time Vilma got injured and Fujita left for the Browns. Then his play was obviously deficient in 2011 and 2012, but cutting him would leave a hole that could only get worse.

We couldn't get an upgrade at ILB and we tried. We brought in vets and we drafted linebackers since 2009 so that they could step in. We picked up 3 LBs FAs in 2012

2009 4th rounder Stanley Arnoux - projected 4-3 OLB (tore achilles twice)
2009 UDFA Jonathan Casillas - projected 4-3 OLB
2011 3rd rounder Martez Wilson - projected 4-3 OLB
2011 7th rounder Nate Bussey - projected 4-3 OLB
2012 FA ILB Curtis Lofton
2012 FA OLB Chris Chamberlain (hand selected - 80 tackles/2 sacks/1 int in 2011)
2012 FA LB David Hawthorne

Harper was a strong safety that has deficiencies at pass coverage. For when he was drafted and up til the point he started getting exposed more and more, the league changed vastly.

So you're saying we swung and missed on LB's that many times in a row? That doesn't sound like a talent evaluation problem?

Casillas played well as a rotational player for an UDFA.

Hawthorne has been flat out bad since he's gotten here

Lofton was a hit.

We suck at evaluating or coaching LBs, all points to Vitt.

Sounds to me like its a skills position coach we need changes in, which everyone agrees.

First ST
then LB

Payton has 0 input on who's on the field? He doesn't sign off on draft picks?

Stop. Who are you going to replace him with? First road playoff win just last year and now after a subpar season you want him gone. You are a spoiled fool.

Pretty damn sure the way Gregg Williams was, he was in charge of personnel on that field for defense.

That is why they worked so well together for years, you do your part and I will do mine.
