Williams was playing back as safety. He responded to the play and came up; that's why there was nobody behind him.

That was about a 20-25 yd play, to right about where Minnesota needed to get. Diggs is one of Minnesota's top targets. Yet when you look at the play, Diggs looks like he's 6+ yds behind the corner on that side of the field.

Who was the corner? How does he let someone just run right past and get where they want to go without contest? There's no need to sit on a 10 yd out, that leaves Minnesota with one play for a true Hail Mary. Or someone tackles them inbounds and the game ends. You have to guard against the play that actually gives them a chance.

What Williams did was compound the error, but the plain fact is that Minnesota basically won when Diggs was wide open where he was.

Was that Crawley? Lattimore? Who?

Nah that was on Williams

First step to moving on is to just accept it and quit playing mental gymnastics to try and blame other people. Williams blew it. It just is what it is.

I just hope a play like doesn’t mess him up mentally.

I agree w OP. How do you let him get wide open exactly where they need to be to kick game winner? That zone defense was absolute Bs.

He missed the tackle. He wasn't the primary cover on the guy. If Williams makes the tackle but Diggs gets out of bounds, Minny wins. And there wasn't another Saint in position to even go for the ball. Or shadowing the WR. That was bad.

One of the two linebackers in the middle of the field should have blitzed.

If he would have properly wrapped up Diggs it would have taken one hell of an effort to get out of bounds.

the problem is - if he had hit Diggs, it would have been early - he just made a mistake - it sucks, but i don't blame the guy - hell even if he had hit diggs, and the ball fell incomplete - there was a good chance DPI would have been called - and it would have been game over too.

Young players want to make the cool tackle no arms. This is the result.

Thought that was a safety's role, to make sure things like this don't happen.

Bruh it was on Williams, I like him he'll be fine player, but as a professional football player you have to know to come up and wrap up the game ends. Coaching should have reenforced that.

Next year boys, now we've got to hope DB9 doesn't bend mickey Loomis overy a barrel and go in raw.

You are completely incorrect. Williams had 1 job. Don't let the receiver behind him. Under ANY circumstances, don't let the receiver behind him. Period. That was his job. He absolutely failed at it. It's on him. Period.

People making excuses for him trying to make a big play, as opposed to doing his job are simply making excuses and ignoring reality.
