The refs just can't help themselves when it comes to helping Brady.

Profootballtalk link to refs stopping Bowles from wasting a timeout

Refs admitted to telling Bowles not to challenge the punt spot call in the second half.

How did that help?

It gave the Bucs 40 extra seconds of time. They scored with 9 seconds left.

Instead of a quick drive, it would have been a hail mary instead.

Eh, whatever at this point. The Saints clearly aren’t good enough to take advantage of opportunities in a crap division, so hard to be too concerned if some opportunities are taken away.

quote:

“Well, the ref came over and told me that they couldn’t tell, and they watched the replay and couldn’t tell,” Bowles said. “They weren’t going to change it, so there was no need to challenge it.”

Something doesn't add up. So, they decided to review it on their own without a challenge and made a determination as to how they would rule? Were they really making that decision from looking at the big screen, or did they actually look at the video monitor w/o a challenge prompt?
