Word is that Collins could go undrafted due to the severity of the situation and the uncertainty of his involvement in it. I know if I were running a team, I wouldn't draft him as it stands. I do hope he is truly innocent, but that will really suck to have his future get all jacked up because of this being out there.

If he does go undrafted and is exonerated, what does this mean for him and the Saints? I'm just pondering here, but how badass would it be to bring him in as an UDFA after it is all settled. But what would that entail? I would think he could command a high dollar contract. If this does happen, could this be the start of a new era in rookie pool of football? It could spark future rookie stars to get legal representation, fight the draft process and maybe force the NFL to allow them to opt out of the draft altogether.

Just some thoughts running through my head that I find interesting. Would be nice to get an innocent Collins to play in his home State for his home team without having to draft him

This may be a dumb question, but why can't he withdraw from the draft until this is cleared up, then enter supplemental draft?

Depends what is know. There has been no leak of information since him coming home to "handle" this. NFL teams will know more than we do. If he isn't taking in the 2nd round, opinions about the matter are going to change drastically.

Word I am hearing is the Saints will take him at 31. They have spoken with police & are not concerned.

I think La’el Collins, the LSU tackle projected to be a first-round draft choice, has a problem. A pregnant woman Collins apparently knew was murdered last week in Louisiana, and police want to speak with Collins. Police say he is not a suspect. But one team I talked to that is interested in drafting a tackle in the first round is now re-thinking whether Collins will even be on its board on Thursday night. This team’s thinking goes: How can you draft a guy who’s being sought in connection with the death of a woman, even if police are saying now he isn’t a suspect? He needs to be exonerated by Thursday. Fair or unfair, Collins needs to address this today, and with finality.

As one league source said on Wednesday, if Collins had no connection to the crime of any kind, he should be doing everything he can to meet with police ASAP, so that police can be persuaded to give Collins full clearance before the draft begins. Absent a declaration from the authorities ruling Collins out, how can any team draft him — in any round? So why is Collins delaying the process? One reasonable conclusion would be that Collins has opted to protect his liberty over his draft stock, which means that Collins has reason to believe that, based on what he tells police, he could still become a suspect.

Plus Mayok said this last night on his show, and I have seen it addressed the same way in one or two other places. Teams are scared of what this could all be.

Considering that Collins has not even spoken with police yet, I find this hard to believe.

I dont know him, but I've talked to people that do and they say there is no way he's involved in this. They all say he's a quality dude.

I'll take him at 31.

If anybody should have State Police connections to get some real info, it should be the Saints.

That's what is crazy about the situation. He has been avoiding police if the recent reports are to be believed. They say they have not heard from him or his lawyer, which is different from the initial reports. That doesn't look good on him

There are plenty of "quality dudes" who commit crimes. The problem is the unknown. Do you really think police are going to speak with the Saints and jeopardize an investigation?

If there is a chance he is prosecuted for murder, he will not be drafted. Im sure all interested teams have done everything possible to figure out the situation. I guarantee you that at least one GM has spoken with the DA in an attempt to get a yes or no answer on this.

If he is drafted tonight, no doubt he will never be charged with murder.

pretty sure schefty said so this morning on M&M. I hard M&M play a replay of schefty saying this.

Collins will not go in top 2 rounds considering the magnitude of situation and the lack of immediate clearance of his name. This is a huge issue. A ticking time bomb IMO.

Exactly. He may be a sweat guy to everyone, but that doesn't negate him from committing a crime such as this. I really do hope he is innocent, but right now there are too many unknowns and circumstantial clouds hanging over him

The police admitted they reached out to NFL media sources. They are also saying that he is NOT a suspect.
