If Brees is trying to break the bank, like we all know he's trying to do, I would seriously consider trading him for 2 1st rounders and maybe another perk.... like maybe they can cough off Emanuel Sanders or a RB....

and when you have mediocre to bad QBs getting those 100 million dollar contracts what is he supposed to think? Its getting to the point where QBs he is far superior to are getting paid more than him.

It would be one thing if the cap was stagnant and he was demanding more but with the increase and inferior guys getting paid like him why should'd he get his?

The Saints are at fault for years of bad drafts and failed FA's. Why go cheap on one of the few guys that has earned his.

And this year, 5-6 wins with him.

You can blame that on a defense that's been the worst in the league 3 of the last 4 years

I think Micky is played my this very smart. Brees is looking for his last big contract at 37. He can play this year out and be 38 at beginning of next year. He still won't be a free agent. The Saints would franchise tag him. Then he would be 39 and no one will throw huge money at a 39 year old. Plus what if he gets hurt? Drew won't chance it. A deal will get done right before their deadline.

Saints hold all the cards here.

Just my thoughts.

I swear, even the media can't check cap numbers. The Broncos have about 5.4 million in cap space according to overthecap.com.

Drew Brees has a 19,750,000 base salary this year (excluding his workout bonus). I don't see the Broncos being able to find 15 million dollars to fit him under the salary cap, much less quickly to allow Brees to get to Broncos training camp.

If we franchise tag him in 2017 offseason, it will cost us $42.5M. Brees has been tagged enough times to accelerate the cost to that point.

That is not us holding the cards. If brees has the opportunity to sign a 1 year 42 million dollar deal, he's gonna do it. shite, we probably are barely offering that for 2 years. Brees actually holds all the cards - if we don't give him a contract he likes, there is nothing we can do to stop him from hitting FA.

Doesn't he have political aspirations? You need a lot of money for that. Although if he were to win another Super Bowl with the Saints he could probably win any election in the state the following year.

Is it his fault that the saints gave Jairus or Gallete the contracts they did. Wealth begets wealth. He only has a few more years to earn, why shouldn't he maximize it?

and weve won 7 games the last 2 years, and 3 of 4.

We've bombed our drafts
We've paid money to Byrd, Junior, and others that haven't worked out...a lot of money. Hell, look at all our dead money.

From 2011-2015, the Manning's cap hit for the Broncos was equal or more (can't remember the specifics) than Brees, yet they were able to build a complete team via the draft. Ironically, their weakness was the QB position.

Manning was only bad last year. He was ridiculous in his other seasons with Denver. I get what you're saying, though. Our management has been garbage, which is why the Saints have gone 7-9 back to to back seasons.

I do not count 2012 for obvious reasons.

I really don't think that's possible.

The window to trade him has passed.

Remember when Brees was going to the Rams because St. Louis is close to Purdue?

He won't settle for someone that can't beat out Mark Sanchez.

I gurantee if Sanchez starts 9 games this season he'll put up better numbers than Peyton did last season.

His point was that ironically the year they won the super bowl Manning was the weak point not that Manning was the weak point in his first 3 years. Also I don't think its greedy for a guy who has never gotten market value because of the economic system of the league to want to get paid. He played like a top 5 qb last year and should want to be compensated accordingly
