but again, pro sports are just so fricked up in terms of loyalty. if you're not from that city or the surrounding areas, ANYWHERE in the country, i could give a shite who you cheer for. professional sports in the modern era define systems that lack loyalty
Not too long ago SAINTS fans on this very board was bashing certain players, the coach, the owner, etc.lol. We can pull up OLD threads, that would be funny. And a lot don't give a rats arse about the citizens of New Orleans who TRUELY reps the SAINTS and love that team. But hey winning changes everything right.
Since people want to divide North and South Lousiana. I can remember before Katrina hit you'd hardly see any SAINTS merchandise outside of the New Orleans metro area but a few Jersey's here and there in the mall. When the SAINTS sucked I can't recall seeing a lot of people wearing SAINTS shirts and jersey's around Louisiana. But hey everybody always been a die hard saints fan.lol.

I see what you're trying to do...but you're not really making a point. Im pretty sure you're hinting that it is a confliction to have a 2nd favorite team. I know BamaDoug grew up in Louisiana but went to Bama, so Bama is his favorite team, but still likes LSU. It is strange...but not crazy if you dont take sports to the Nth degree like some of you do.
Fortunately for me The Texans and Saints are in separate conferences...so unless they play each other in the Super Bowl its not that big of a deal. Even if the Texans lost to New Orleans...It wouldnt upset me that much. It sounds like im trying to have my cake and eat it to, but Ive earned the right to root for both teams...trust me.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that being a die-hard fan means you can't bash the team.
In fact, it's exactly the opposite.

Hell the SAINTS had a season opener blacked out, I think it was in 2004. A damn SEASON OPENER. Loyalty my arse. lol.

The last time a season opener was blacked out locally came in 2004, when the New Orleans Saints hosted Seattle.

no that is EPIC FAIL. If you don't root for YOUR school you are a douchebag of epic proportions.

You guys take this pretty personally. "OOOOh...dont you dare act like you're as much of a fan as me...not even as close to as much of a fan. In fact you dont deserve to root for any team in the playoffs if they arent your number 1 team. Just sit back and admire our greatness and what great fans we are and how responsible we are for the teams success...cause you see...Im a loser and this is all i have..."
Ok.
I really don't care who your favorite team is. I feel sorry for you actually, you wont share the deep emotions, Pride and Joy that we will feel in a few hours. I'm not saying you wont enjoy the game, but being a Saints fan is ingrained deep in the soul, you don't choose to be a Saints fan, it chooses you. If your not emotionally involved it it, your not a true fanatic. Just my opinion based on my experience

i'd call him a fake if he gave up his allegiance to the team he was raised to love just b/c LSU had free tuition and all his friends went there

Do you know what a "die-hard fan" is genius?
"Roots for Alabama over LSU" cannot be a "Die-hard LSU fan"

meh
it's pro sports
a kid growing up here in LC is closer to the texans than the saints, physically
if you grew up in SE/SC LA and Southern MS, then i agree there is no excuse
I grew up in the LC area and there are only two football teams I've ever supported my entire life. The Tigers and Saints. I used to work with some people from north LA that supported no Louisiana teams. I have a difficult time understanding how someone from Louisiana can't support their home teams. If you're proud of your state and where you're from then it should come naturally.

You root for the college YOU go to not where your your parents went unless you are a huge pussy. I don't care what team you rooted for as a child. Kids get a pass on bandwagon status. Now if we hen to an Ivy league school or something and still rooted for Bama, OK.

College sports are such a different animal then pro sports. I see nothing wrong with having a second team in college sports (FSU became my second team when I went there for my M.S.) especially since very few teams ever play in the elite games for the same goal.
Pro sports is different. Everyone is playing for the exact same goal under equal rules. To me it's traitorous to have a second pro team. Taking the Hornets as an example, it pisses me off that alot of Rockets fans in NOLA I know root for both the Rockets and Hornets. I was raised a Rockets fan and I'll never root for the Hornets.

so he should make an absolutely stupid financial decision to go to bama for something as silly as the fan police?

What if you attended more than one college?

If you don't understand this, maybe you haven't experienced it. At 3 or 4 years old I was watching Saints games with my dad and brothers. It meant the world to them, and that was transferred to me, I didn't choose to be a Saints fan, I was a Saints fan from my earliest memory until today
