He got after Ram early. They slid Moreau over there most of the game to help him

He abused Ram for the first sack, hadn't seen anything like that from Ram before.

I thought Penning looked better last night. The whole line was getting great push in the run game. Still have a ways to go in pass pro though.

Per PFF

64.7 pass block grade (44.5 vs TEN)
43 pass block snaps (39 snaps vs TEN)
1 sack (2)
0 QB hit (1)
3 hurries (3)
————
4 pressures* (6)
*combines sack, hit, hurry

vs a 13 year former pro bowl and all pro in Justin Houston who had 9.5 sacks last year. This is the progress you are looking for

He gave up a sack, 3 hurries and 4 pressures and still got a 64.7 in pass blocking? Someone explain PFF grading to me? I get there was a bit better play but how do you get a 64 out of that?

A pressure is simply the cumulative total of sacks, hits and hurries.

There was 4 bad plays out of 43 pass block snaps.

Just curious does PFF pick up communication miscues such as picking up stunts because I remember him missing one or two of those well?

They grade every rep without bias

Nothing like wanting a guy to play bad to prove a shite take correct

Playing a bit better doesn’t mean he played good either. You can highlight his miniscule improvement through pff but if he’s continually giving up sacks, pressures and hurries thats worrisome for our oline. But yeah go have fun with saying you were right on a shite point but also take note that those stats still prove to be a liability on an oline that also has down performances from ruiz and hurst as well. My point being we’re basically surviving to win these games as we develop him. They’ll come a point when if he doesn’t make significant strides, the coaching staff will consider benching him.

He improved in the 2H of the TEN game and it carried over into a matchup with a better DE than Arden Key. No one is right after two games. And my whole “point” was to see how he progresses after his first career start at LT

I would be the first to acknowledge if he was regressing. Just be honest with the assessment

He isn’t regressing but he isn’t substantially improving either. Its minimal improvement but I guess hes not going backwards which I guess is a plus. I just worry that when you have guys like Hurst and Ruiz playing like shite too, its so hard to be patient with Penning. Overall we have a huge oline issue.

He did not play great, but was better than game 1. I thought Hurst did not look good last night. Could we see Peat again soon?

He’s not going to be Trent Williams after two games. His progression won’t even be linear.

The whole unit is an issue right now outside of McCoy and Ram. Doug Marrone and Jahri Evans were supper to have this unit fine tuned, and it ain’t happened yet
