But the Saints defense was serviceable, which is why drafting a WR in the first round is stupid to even consider

And we also seemed to be trying to jam a square peg intoa round hole with a ton of our players in Spags system. The staff will take the guy they feel will make the biggest immediate impact. We are going to try and put the best team around our 33 year old elite qb and go for broke.

Remember when we used to draft for needs as opposed to BPA?

Again, no one is out here campaigning for them to take Austin and saying it would be a mistake not to. However, if he's there at 15 is the top guy on their board you sprint to the podium with a moment's hesitation.

I don't think this will be the case as this draft is loaded with defensive talent, but if it is then we should be ecstatic. Austin is a stud.

I thought Tavon Austin's primary role was as running back?

You're right why build for the future. Let's just keep adding to our offense and watch the worst defense in the NFL get worse and worse but who cares Sedrick Ellis and Malcolm Jenkins didn't work out so let's never draft a defensive in first round ever again, because we all know how well our first round offensive players have panned out. You always come up extremely dismissive with the mere thought of our staff going offense. I hope for your sake they go defense.

I thought this was gonna be a thread about Tavon Austin when he was 15, maybe a short highlight video.

Again, I hate answers like this.

You don't go into a draft and say "WE'RE PICKING DEFENSE NO MATTER WHO FALLS!"

You pick the BPA with need as a factor, but not a primary one. By the way, WR is a need, IMO.

Personally, I want pass rush, but a this team lacks elite playmakers all over the place.

Is a rookie picked at 15 going to make THAT much of a difference on an historically bad defense?

Aldon Smith, Von Miller, and JJ Watt all say hello

I'm going to be completely honest here. I would not have one bit of problem with this selection. Tavon is for real, dude is legit. Moore and Sproles are both turning 30. Sproles is dynamic but has higher salary and will be on wrong side of 30. MOore can't touch Tavon's jock in the play making category. Tavon is a beast. Tavon, Jimmy, Morgan give this team a dimension no other team in the league can duplicate then you throw in colston and all the others. We can address defense all you want but this is a selection I understand and would be tremendous. Return Game, and Offensive game.

as I've said before, the only offensive position I'd be alright with is tackle. Even then, i dont think well get any of the top 3 staying at 15. Any other offensive position I'll be pretty pissed.

Either you're being obtuse or you don't get it.

My point was just because you pick a Defender in the first round, doesn't mean our Defense is going to improve.

You can't think that one dimensionally in the draft.

Yes, I would MUCH prefer to draft Defense. I want a pass rusher. BUT...I'm not going to dismiss Offensive improvements completely.

Like you said for defense. Just because you draft an offensive player in the first round doesn't mean our offense will improve

Generally I'd agree with you, but if you find a stud pass rusher, they will immediately improve your defense

That's why the Saints go for Best Player Available philosophy. Who do we think will have the biggest impact on the team? Like many have said, it's a defensive heavy draft so I see us going that direction but if the guys we project are not there and Austin is the highest I'm fine with it. We need some depth at NT, though. FA will determine a little more.
