I was curious if anyone else noticed this. Last year the Saints DBs especially Lattimore were very physical with WRs (legally) within the first 5 yards. Yesterday they weren’t even trying to make contact. One of the reasons they kept getting burned was that they gave the Tampa WRs free releases the whole game. They didn’t even try to make contact. Is there a rule change?

This was a VERY common theme the first two games last year and all preseason with the starters this year.

Not only are they giving them free releases, but they are playing 10 yards off on top of that (instead of the more standard 5-6 yards off).

We did it a good bit in other games last year also, but not to the level we did in the other games mentioned.

I think once you get beat 2-3x for big plays, you begin playing off.

Lattimore looked like absolute shite yesterday. He and Thomas had their worst games in a Saints uniform

That whole game was nothing but Denis Allen running prevent defense. No one blitz, that's why they loss.

That was a common issue with the Saints defensive scheme every year except last. I don’t know why but Allen loves to play the dbs off the receiver and give them space. Any nfl qb can have a field day with that coverage scheme.

Huh? We blitzed way too much. Problem is it was with ineffective LBs (Klein and Anzalone). Left the coverage out to dry way too often.

That's the one thing besides injury history I didn't like about Lattimore coming out of Ohio St.

They weren't free releasing them, they are just that bad.
