So was Sean right about not wanting a roster full of LSU players?

I would take many of them in their prime. Not when they are washed up like we did.

I think it’s pretty unfair to evaluate anybody on a team that is this shitty as a whole

Why do we get garbage LSU players like Juice and Honey Badger and not good ones like Burrow and Jefferson?

To that point it is much better to take these players early on their way up in their rookie contracts or seeking their first FA deal.

The Saints pick up these players after they have been paid in the league awhile. Often they are no longer hungry or are set in their ways.

I mean there have been many on rosters across the NFL that have excelled and shined.

If you wait till they are past their prime and on the end of their career likely you won't be impressed.

LSU players would have been good on draft day. Not dudes past their prime looking for one last contract they can fall back on. Players our lame duck head coach thought he could just plug in and everything would be ok.

Do you think he would have quit if he had Burrow, Chase, and Jefferson on his roster?

Come on man, Payton was a Northern guy that loved Northern talent. Smh Every time he had a chance to draft LSU talent he passed, so, screw him. Tyrann Mathieu isn't the same guy that first entered the NFL and played at LSU. He's lost a step, but I tell you who they messed up on not signing and bringing back, and that's Kwon Alexander. The defense fed off his energy, Davis fed up off him too. Kwon is playing nuts for the Jets right now. Imagine him and Davis and Werner, what a trio of LBers. The Saints defense could use his energy right now with the way they're playing. Smdh

Not a popular opinion but truthful, we couldn't get guys like burrow, though a number 1 pick, because we had no assets. We had no assets because Payton made stupid trades to " win one more for Brees" when in actuality he was trying to make his resume look better. Now we are stuck in hell for a few years by his stupid trades and contracts and Allen's trades in his first year

Not garbage players but players past their prime. Payton had chances to pick LSU players in the draft and passed. Example: Jefferson who is lighting it up with the Vikings. No trading away multiple !st round picks just a high quality guy . Those 1's could have been used to draft a franchise QB. Payton fricked us good and left .

You draft by talent, need, your position and a players position and availability in the draft. So many tangibles and intangibles involved in the decision making of who to chose and whether to move up or down from your spot. Any team that bases their personnel decisions based on what friggin' mascot a College player had on his helmet is a lost cause. Timing, talent and need are everything.

The only theory I can really place on this would be that by avoiding LSU players then you are maybe getting away from some of the hanger-ons.

Payton could have been thinking that LSU players would have too many of their friends and family hanging around and in their ears.

Tom Benson was the one who didn't want LSU players. He was still mad about "fearing for his life" during the 2005 games at Tiger Stadium. It was Saints fans who were harassing him at the games because his team was so bad and he blamed LSU for not protecting him. He wanted badly to move the team to San Antonio but Paul Tagliabue wouldn't allow it. All LSU players were off limits as long as he was alive.
