re: Should we have gotten Addai instead of Bush in the 06 Draft?

Don't forget how effective Bush was in the final 10 games of his rookie season:
90 rushes for 429 yards, 4.8 ypc 7 TD
42 receptions for 584 yards for 13.9 yards per catch, 3 TD
Over a 16 game season, that projects to
144 rushes, 686 yards, 11.2 TD
67 catches, 934 yards, 4.8 TD
or that he was pretty good in the 4 game stretch between the team's awful start and his injury in the Jacksonville game:
63 carries, 287 yards, 4.57 ypc, 1TD
25 catches, 155 yards, 6.2 ypr, 1 TD
90 rushes for 429 yards, 4.8 ypc 7 TD

Jones-Drews was one of the most exciting players to EVER play college football. You act like you never heard of him before he got to the NFL.
And let's say I'm just completely lying about liking Jones-Drew more than Bush for the 2006 Draft, then how about this:
Looking at it IN HINDSIGHT, do you think we should have taken Bush in 2006 or someone else, like Addai or Jones-Drew or someone else?
Or, in hindsight, do you think Bush was the best person that we could have gotten with our #2 pick, and that he is a valuable asset to our team, and that he will continue to develop and grow into a bigger and bigger star, especially with the addition of Shockey?

i'm not a sucker of reggie's balls in any way, but i do believe that his presence on the field alone makes him worth the number 2 pick. Defenses have to play with one eye on him at all times just because they know what he CAN do. Bush can play 58 minutes, have 2 touches, and be a major contributor to the offenses success. Addai does not have that effect.
Good points.

I don't care if Bush turns out to have the worst ypc in NFL history, as long as he can be a valuable piece to us having the #1 offense in the NFL. Even if we don't have Deuce, having to defend Bush and Shockey as short-range receivers is not going to be easy for opposing DCs, especially since Colston is a proven threat further down the field... and if Meachem turns out to truly be a 1st Round WR (his recent performance was very promising)... watch out!!! Of course, the person who makes this all possible, our MVP, is Brees. We are very blessed to have Brees.

well this post made lots of sense.

Not knocking Addai, I truly think he is great, but the Saints don't have nearly the o-line the Colts have. Yeah, they don't give up many sacks, but that is attributable to Payton's scheme. Stinchcomb probably wouldn't start for many teams, neither would Nesbit. Evans is solid as is Jamal Brown (who isn't as good as some Saints fans believe). This is why the FO keeps drafting o-linemen. Put Reggie behind the Colts line, he would look better than he does now; he'd probably be on par with Addai's production.
Just my $.02

Yes, Yes, and Yes. In all actually we should have traded down and got Addai and a Cromartie

Reggie Bush and his Heisman dissagree with that. MJD was 1st team All-American over Reggie but let's not go off into revisionist history here. Reggie was the most hyped back for a reason.

That is just moronic to the nth power. Addai was taken with the 30th pick and that was around what his value was from predraft scouting by just about every team. Taking him with the 2nd pick would have justified sending you to the crazy farm. I see your point that Addai has played much better than Bush. No one can argue that but to say he should have been selected with the 2nd pick is nuts.
If you are going to use that crazy logic then Addai is not the guy we should have selected. The guy we should have taken is Antonio Cromartie BY FAR.

i had maroney ahead of both, for the record
Do you still think Maroney should be ranked ahead of Addai? I don't. Maybe it is a function of their system but Addai has appeared to be the better running back thus far IMO. Not to say Maroney is bad. Far from it. I think he is a better than average RB but is not being fully utilized by NE. Too early to tell but up to this point it is Addai for sure.

Wow, just wow. For once I believe that this thread may have more props that knocks for my boy 25. All you guys make valid points that I have been stating since I joined here.
I'm just glad to hear that my thoughts and opinions on the guy are shared by fans of the black and gold that are more worried about wins and superbowl runs than how many fricking ypc someone has or where they were drafted, or if this guys a bust or that guys a bust.... stats, stats, stats (SFP)....
Bump all the damn negative posts when ya boy starts lighting it up and we can all have a good I told ya so!

I am biting my nails in anticipation of the day we get to use Bush as a complimentary back to a solid RB in the backfield. That solid RB maybe a healthy Deuce, Thomas, or someone not yet on the team. But when that happens, watch the frick out.

Lets put it this way, if you could trade Reggie before this season for either Addai, Jones-Drew, or Maroney would you do it. If you say "no", then you are not a saints fan, b/c any of those trades would make the saints better.

Does that trade come with a cordless drill so that said trade can drill some holes into the O-line. If not, I don't see them doing any better.

No, getting Reggie Bush did not excite me. I'm very sorry. Now had we traded down to get Jones-Drew, I would have been excited. But I was excited to get Brees. Watching him at Purdue was just as exciting to me as watching Jones-Drew at UCLA. Both of those guys impressed me personally in college, while Bush didn't (I'm sorry, but how I felt was how I felt, I can't change that). Also, I am excited that we got Shockey.
