Shough was incredible most of 2nd half, still major communication issues

Even on game tying drive, every play there were people blitzing and coming in untouched. Not sure if it's a McCoy, Shough, KM, or all 3 problem. I know Vilma complimented him on attacking the zones where people blitzed from but typically, teams still are able to pick up those blitzes. We almost never did. Olines do typically start the season bad, Detroit however did not. I agree we need our starting units to play a couple series during the preseason.

I understand we don't want starters going down with injuries potentially for a preseason game, but you can't start the season not understanding basic principles and having that bad of miscommunications. I also think Kelvin Shephard (Lions D coordinator) called one hell of a game. Last, loved the response from Shough and our WRs, wanted the win, but one hell of a response after such a shitty 1st half. If we can get to just average 1st half play, and continue playing how we do in the 2nd half, we will do very well in our division.

Shough said that the Lions called a bunch of new blitzes and pressures in the first half that they hadn’t seen on film last year.

One of the reasons weeks 1-2 can give you some weird results is the NFL really is such a big “what’s on tape” league and early weeks teams that put in new wrinkles in the offseason can have some success before the league catches up

I thought Greg Williams was coaching the Lions D, I mean they brought it every snap. We never figured it out the entire game. Shough started doing quicker passes and playing better under the circumstances, but we still didn't figure it out presnap.

On top of a hostile environment. That crowd was bringing the noise. It was insane on the TV, I can't imagine live or on field trying to communicate.

Shough and 1st team need reps in preseason at least some to help develop consistency

Saints are an 11 win team (maybe 12 or 13) after what I saw in the 2nd half. We are beating Baltimore next week.

This. Plus I think Shough has taken over the protection calls this year so there’s going to be a learning curve there. He adjusted. He’ll get better at it
