Sean Payton quit because they pushed their chips in to the point the cap ate their asses.
Now with no QB savior on the horizon, he quits.
Thats the story here. Bottom line. Whoever they hire gets to coach the skeleton team while the roster bottoms out.
Miraculously, he'll want to coach again in 2026.

It is frustrating that he pushed lots of our salary cap money into the last few years and we didn’t get to the super bowl and now when we have to play with discount players that you have to coach up to be better ..... and he leaves.

In everyday terms, what Sean Payton did was trash all the long term client accounts betting on short term, one off bonuses. Then when it didn't work out, says he is taking some time off to find himself.
Who hasn't dealt with somebody in business like that?
I don't know if he is a coward but I think he set this team up for longterm failure with how they managed the cap and then when their big bets didnt pan out for whatever reasons...
lol I retire.
What better way to protect your legacy then run from those 7-10, 8-9 finishes the next four years while the roster sorts itself out.

Except the owner and GM were also complicit in the roster mismanagement. Y'all act like he had complete control over the whole organization.

The owner is a grandmother. She is not that far in the weeds. This is all Payton and Loomis doing. Lets get real here.
This ain't Art Howe being told to manage with personnel he disagreed with.
