after ESPN's LeBron James special fun mystery hour, why does anyone pay them any kind of serious mind. Let everyone forget about the Saints again. We were ranked something like 25th by SI last year. Who cares what ESPN thinks?

No guy it's 80% according to your definition of recent history. The Percentage is much higher if you look at the league history as a whole.
I don't give shite what ESPN said, they are wrong every year anyway.
Recent history would be 15 years when 2 new teams came into the league further diluting the talent pool of players.
ESPN is no more wrong than people of this board, they get paid to give opinions. No one knows who will be the next team to step up as even this past season was a surprise to many Saints fans coming off an 8-8 season.

ESPN will never cater to a small market Southern team. The writers are all northern College Grads. Duhhh........

You can't blame them. The odds are definitely against us.
Super Bowl teams don't exactly do very well the immediate year.
But, with that being said, I do believe we will be in the playoffs either as a wild card or representing the NFC South. The NFC South winner will be between us and the Falcons.

After reading Payton and Brees's book, I have a good feeling about the continued success of this team.
Of course we aren't going to win the superbowl every year, but I feel we will be contenders for a long time.

And all I am saying is people should not get their feathers ruffled just because ESPN says it. Basically more than half the time (80% according to you) teams do not make it back after being in it. That would help ESPNs cause for saying that, of course when the picks do come out you will have some analyst pick the Saints and others will not.
I know it is off-season so people have nothing better to discuss but these "ESPN hates the Saints cause they did not say we would repeat" threads get old after about 3 of them.
pretty much

let ESPN drool all over Dallas and MN while we just keep piling on the W's.

What everyone has said here is good.
ESPN is just stating opinions, and yeah, they may be complete dumbasses about it (in our opinions), but at the same time we don't know the Saints are going to make it to the Superbowl. As Saints fans, we will say that we will, or hope the team does. But-all it takes is one interception not being made, one big play by the other team, or a few mistakes and the Saints are out of the playoffs.
All I can do is cheer for them.
That being said, frick ESPN.
