Consider the source. Does anyone believe DraftInsider is reliable? The blurb says this:

quote:

I’m told the New Orleans Saints, another team with two picks in round one, will consider trading up if they feel they are in striking distance of Vic Beasley. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan loves Beasley’s pass rushing ability and potential in a 3-4.

Who told him that? He didn't even mention the source, nor the reputation of the source. It could've been a drunk guy at a bar that relayed that nugget to him.

Also, I'm pretty sure "in striking distance" does not mean the 5th overall pick. It's extremely unlikely Beasley will go before 5. If he falls down to 9, maybe they give up a 3rd to move up to get him.

True Tampa went in the tank 2nd half they must have got the memo from upper levels hey stupid if we let Saints win we have first pick. And the saints still barely won which showed how little depth on roster. No depth because they have NFL lowest' total amount of draft picks. This team is not one player from the Superbowl. All i see online Saints will trade drives me nuts.Let the draft fall to you if anything trade down a few spots an pick up more draft picks.

aaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! more run on sentences!!! why do you make it so difficult to read what you are trying to say? maybe it's insightful, but none of us will ever know because we can't make any sense of it. Punctuation, bra! Use it.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too mad to give up a 3rd to guarantee Beasley, as opposed to staying at 13 and having to chose between Ray, Parker, or Waynes. I do think both Wanyes and Parker will be a great NFL players, and I've even argued for both at 13 before, but I'd rather spend a little extra and get Beasley.

Basically we gave Jimmy Graham and the 13th pick- for Vic Beasley and C Max Unger.

Don't forget about the 4th we gave up too.

I want Beasley. I do not want to trade up for him. If they can use a 3rd to get to 9...maybe. I'd rather used the 3rd to drop the 31 into the mid twenties and take Kendricks if he is there. Or, take the two 3rds, and get another 2nd....anything but giving up picks to get to top 10.

I'm surprised how many people are in love with this guy despite never seeing him play. I get that he has a great upside, and we have a history of doing well with small school OL in the mid rounds, but he's a different case.

I get what you are saying & I totally agree. I would much rather one higher rated lineman in this draft. I only used Marpett in my hypothetical scenario because of the need at guard & I went LB heavy with the first 3 picks. What I don't understand is how is Marpett any different from Jahri Evans out of Bloomsburg though who went at pick #108 in the 4th round?

Marpett could very well be the pick, he has Saints written all over him. And I do agree that it is similar to the Evans pick, but at the D3 level Marpett faced even lesser competition than Evans at the D2 level. I could be wrong, but I don't remember OG being as big of a need then, as it is now. Also, with Jahri, we caught lightening in a bottle. Now that it is a pretty big need, I don't think we should expect it to happen again. Again, I could very well be wrong and not only will Marpett be drafted by us, he could get playing time year 1 like Jahri. The only thing that I know for sure is that I am beyond ready for the draft to get here. Is it the 30th yet?

This is a frickin understatement. The NFL needs to move the draft back to mid April & not the end of April.

I couldn't agree more. First round would be tonight if they kept the same schedule from a few years ago. At least it isn't as long as last year.

If I'm not mistaken we had Nesbit before the draft and ended up losing his position when he was suspended bc of the Starcaps debacle. So, it was more of a luxury pick that turned into a need.

The problem I have with looking at both scenarios, trading up or staying put, is our lackluster first round track record. I realize the team can't think that way going into it but as a fan looking on I can't help it. Like Payton said, they need impact players ready to play. Trading up and coming away with sedrick ellis will kill us. Staying put and coming away with a malcolm jenkins and a patrick robinson is equally disappointing.

I realize this is neither a fresh perspective or value add to the discussion. Nailing the pick(s)is more important to me and it is hard to share the passion displayed here around where we draft and what we give up. The same goes for the second and third round picks. Nail them, patriots style.

Using this logic, you pocket as many picks as you can. Maybe by blind luck you'll pick a good player....if you pick a bunch of guys.

Alternatively, you could trade up into the can't miss zone and go that route, assuming you trusted that existed. Both have their faults if you miss on the picks. Stacking up on Antonio pittmans in the third round gets you nowhere too. I just want them to hit the picks.

We traded up for Ellis.

We traded up for Sullivan.

How did those work out? Give me your "can't miss" in this draft? I don't see one...and neither can the so called "experts".

Slow down. I agree with you which is why I said that was depending on believing a can't miss prospect existed. My only point is that wherever they draft, they need to hit on the pick. If they trade up, make sure it counts. It they stand pat, make sure it counts. As a Saints fan, I would like to see young exciting rookies make an impact. I feel that on the whole we have been deprived of that.

Got it.

I would like to believe that they've been trying to hit on the picks, but I think there's something missing in the equation. I'm still pissed how they handled last year's draft. Other than Cooks, every pick was a reach (and an ACL rehab survivor). It was as tough they didn't take it seriously.
