Very interested to see what Nielsen can do with this player.

I want Buddy D to come back from the grave just to pronounce this name.

Started 15 games for KC last year.
Dude is a serious physical specimen, but he really hasn't done much.
These are the type of things that the Saints are going to have to do this offseason, and hope they hit on one or two guys.

6'7"/289 lbs
Should be able to play DE & slide inside if necessary.
I didn't see this coming at all. Hopefully we hit on this guy. Low risk/high reward. I can't see him commanding too big of a salary, but I guess we'll find out soon.
The more I think about it...the more I like it. Nothing wrong with taking a chance every now & then.

One KC fan on that post basically compared him to Hendrickson. That he didn’t get much of a chance but when he did he showed flashes.

Someone posted on Twitter with a graph showing him having one of the worst pass rush win rates in the league lol

Actually, the worst I believe

Nielsen must have seen something that he liked on video.

Maybe the Chiefs will sign Davenport next year and we can swap small-school-incredible-measureable-failed-draft-picks.

Per SaintsWire...
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday that the New Orleans Saints are closing in on a two-year contract with defensive end Tanoh Kpassgnon (pronounced passing-yawn, for the curious), a Kansas City Chiefs unrestricted free agent. While the value of this deal is unclear, Pelissero added that it would be a multiyear contract, giving the Saints a possible option in 2022 if they do not re-sign Marcus Davenport after the upcoming season or decline to pick up his $10.6 million fifth-year option.
A member of the 2017 NFL draft class, Kpassagnon was picked at No. 59 in the second round by the Chiefs out of Villanova. Like Davenport, he’s an exceptional athlete: Kpassagnon weighs in at 6-foot-7 and 289 pounds, with arms measuring more than 35 inches in length. He’s got some burst off the line of scrimmage and can bully smaller opponents, but never really broke out in Kansas City with just 7 sacks in 61 career regular season games.
To his credit, Kpassagnon might be an ascending player. He’ll turn 27 this summer, and Pro Football Focus credits him with 70 pressures created in his last two years. He also brings extensive experience with 8 playoff games (6 starts) behind him. If he can make the most of his opportunities in the rotation with Davenport, Cameron Jordan, and Carl Granderson, he’ll be well-positioned to cash in with a big contract upon reaching free agency before his 30th birthday.
Kpassagnon signing with the Saints should not jeopardize their projected compensatory picks in 2022; he’d have to average $5.5 million or more in average annual salary to do that. The Saints have lost lesser-valued free agents like Justin Hardee ($2.3 million per year) and Alex Anzalone ($1.7 million), so those future picks should be safe. But keep an eye out for details on his contract.

You realize this is a moronic statement, yes? Davenport was instrumental in our pass rush being towards the top of the league.

Just updated my post with the contract details. So nowhere near the 5.5 yearly.

The Chiefs switch to a 4-3 last season so he mostly has been playing in a 3-4. I’m sure he’ll do a lot better in our system and learning under Nielsen

37 pressures in 11 games - 3.4 per game and just 1.5 sacks this season. He's average. And when May 3rd rolls around and we don't pick up his option, we'll see just how instrumental he is.

What's his run grade? Pass rushing is only half of his job.

He's average
Lol no. He hasn’t been worth the trade up, but he’s far from average. We were expecting a pro bowl caliber player and he certainly hasn’t been that. But he’s clearly above average.
Kpassagnon is just depth so they don’t feel forced to go DE in the draft if they don’t have to. These are the kinds of signings we will have to make until the cap goes up or we start hitting on draft picks again.

This is a really good contract... LINK
2021 cap # - 1.1 mil
2022 cap # - 3.1 mil...2022 dead cap - 400 k Loomis gave us a very easy OUT
Loomis & the FO are getting the upper-hand on every deal so far. We don't have a lot of money to spend, but we're getting the most out of it.
