Ok? I'm not saying Brees is the worst. I'm stating a fact that he turned it over 3 times. I guess because he's been good I have to ignore the fact that he turned it over 3 times?

That wasn't a complete knock on Brees. He's getting sacked which is partly the lines fault as well. But when talking about points the defense gave up in the second half, I don't think it's out of line to point out that they were put in bad spots by Brees turnovers.

Sorry that I hit a nerve.

Pointing out the defensive deficiencies isn't singing the offense's praises. My entire point is that this team is bereft of talent across the board, in every facet of the game.

We knew the defense wasn't going to be good after the youth movement along with the loss of Junior and the injuries to Byrd, Lewis, and ell

But they've kept us in ball games. 2 turnovers along with 2 turnover of downs last game. 2 huge turnovers in the Bucs game, the entire cowboys game, etc

Starting field postion on Phillys scoring drives:

PHI 19 - 7
NO 46 - 3 (after fumble)
PHI 20 - 7
NO 13 - 7 (fumble)
50 - 3
PHI 17 - 3
NO 4 - 7

Offense hung them out to dry and they did their part. The only game they truly sucked was Carolina, and they still managed to get our offense the ball back with a chance to win

Maybe I didn't mean to attack and single you out, but I've heard a lot of whining about Brees on this board and it makes no sense whatsoever.

Where would we be without him? Really think about that.

Complaining about Drew Brees puts you in the lowest rung of the dipshits, man. I want zero turnovers too, but that just won't happen. It's a bit difficult to do the QBing thing with people in your face all the time.

Drew Brees is a future HOF QB and he's helped turn this franchise from laughing stock to legitimate contender. He's done everything right and more. Yet you complain. Fine, if not Drew Brees...who's in the top 4 best QB's annually in the NFL for the last 10 years or so...who? You want Blake Bortles? You want Josh McCown? How about Tyrod Taylor? Or Mark Sanchez? Nick Foles? Ryan Fitzpatrick?

You are right in alot of what you say. But all the accomplishments does not exempt him for how he has played. No, not all of its his fault. But giving him a pass just based on past accomplishments is just as dumb as blaming him for everything.

Why does saying Brees needs to make better decisions mean i want blake bortles as a QB. Stop with the extremes

Last in yards IS a issue just not as big as the offense scoring under 20 ppg.

In todays NFL, if you're scoring under 20ppg, you better be in top 3 total defense, especially scoring defense. Were allowing 28ppg, scoring 20.6ppg. Thats why we stink.

For all those clamoring that It's not the Defense

Factor in how often they are on the field and the absolute shite situations the offense has put them in and get back to me. The defense, while not perfect, put us in position to win at least two more games, and the offense (and the FG unit) screwed the pooch. The offense has done nothing but put the defense in terrible situations all year.

This is what happens when you have a bunch of fans spoiled by a consistently great offense. When it isnt great - its the problem.

Proof? you guys are basically saying something stupid like: "Last time we had the worst defense in the NFL we weren't 1-4, we were 3-1!!! The difference is the offense!"

Yeah. the offense is the difference. But maybe its time to actually EXPECT the offense to be somewhat average for once, and ask the defense to finally carry some weight.

Just a thought.

Hey mr smarty pants -
Def stays on the field too long
Def sucks
How much time did it take to run up those 300 yards in the first half
Wouldn't you prefer our offense to have that time???

I'd prefer for our offense to stay on the field and not go 3 and out with a fumble 3x in a half

You have this backwards. Saints forced 2 turnovers and then gave the offense great field position with 2 turnovers on down.

Offense was unable to sustain a drive and kept the D on the field

quote:

6 possessions and 1 good drive for the offense

Our offense is supposed to be the one carrying the team and keeping the defense off the field by controlling the ball and the clock. That is why we committed to the running game this offseason. Completely failed

Another brilliant post from you

I hate that "rebuilding" statement. How about this - keep some of the players that our dumb arse drafts. Otherwise, every damn year we will be " rebuilding". Just look at our draft renention over the past few years!!!
Embarrassing. That staff doesn't have a clue! They're a joke.

Our offense is fricking terrible at them moment. The defense gave up a lot of yards in the last game, absolutely. But the offense has done absolutely nothing with the fumbles and INTs the defense has provided.

No one is saying it's "only not the defense". I for one am sick of people slamming only the defense. The defense came up with two picks and two 4th down stops yet the offense didn't do anything to play complementary ball. Had they been able to stay on the field longer and not put the D in such precarious situations all game, the stats wouldn't be as bad as they were. Oh and the offense scoring 10 points through 59 mins and 59 seconds of that game is absolutely embarrassing.

Panthers, Buccs, Cards, and Eagles games were all winnable of we had a halfway competent offensive coordinator.

Our defense isn't the problem.

Give me a second and I'll post the drive breakdown again.

ETA:

Here is the drive breakdown of the first half of the Eagles game:

First Quarter:
Eagles: 6 plays, 1mins 53secs, turnouver on downs
Saints: 7 plays, 2mins 30secs, PUNT
Eagles: 9 plays, 3mins 10secs, INT by Browner
Saints: 7 plays, 3mins 49secs, TD to Watson
Second Quarter:
Eagles: 12plays, 4mins 10secs, INT by Breaux
Saints: 4 plays, 46 seconds, PUNT
Eagles: 4 plays, 1mins 45secs, TD
Saints: 4 plays, 1mins 24secs, PUNT
Eagles: 8 plays, 4mins 14secs, turnover on downs
Saints: 8 plays, 3mins 29secs, PUNT
Eagles: 4 plays, 1mins 3secs, PUNT
Saints: 2 plays, 0mins 21secs, FUMBLE
Eagles: 6 plays, 1mins 2secs, FIELDGOAL

If you can look at that and blame the defense you're not worth responding to anymore.

Look at that fricking second quarter.

Our offense gave our defense a minute and a half of rest, 45 seconds of rest, and then 20 seconds of rest. And they still only allowed one TD on 4 drives until Brees fumbled it on his own 30 and the defense again held them to only a field goal.

We should have fired Rob Ryan. Matter of fact, what is he still doing in NO?

Possibly 3-2 with McCown.

I appreciate everything Brees has done in the past, but if we are looking at strictly this season so far, you're seeing a qb who can't make the deep throws as much anymore to help loosen up the defensive coverage, continues to hold on to the ball too long, tries to look for the "home run" ball on 3rd and short when we just need a 1st down and hasn't really been protecting the ball as well as he should (also refuses to just throw it away, too). So there, I said it.

He's still trying to play like he's in his prime (and Payton apparently is still calling plays like we've got an elite passing attack and it hasn't worked). They both need to look in the mirror and realize where they are and where the team is.

At least with McCown, Payton seemed to be more in a "let's manage the game better" type of mindset, and it worked pretty well (minus that one bad throw/play call at the end.)

This is crazy talk. McCown had the game of his life against Carolina and still didn't find the endzone.

He likely doesn't recognize the LB situation like Drew did against Dallas.

Ok, call me crazy then.

I thought the Saints managed that game much better than most other games so far this season.
