This guy's going to have to go into the witness protection program. And I hope he gets prosecuted for extortion, which I suspect could have a rougher sentence than taking a few vicodin without a prescription.
I'm getting pretty worried about how much of a distraction this could become, but the league apparently has known about it for a while, so I don't know if he's going to face any serious repercussions since Goodell is pretty quick to lay down the law.

Believe me this guy isn't the only problem and the threat was very great as a distraction LAST season. We were VERY lucky this didn't break mid season last year.
Ever since I got my info, I have dreaded when this day would finally come.

Vicodin is a controlled substance...not a narcotic. I work in pharmacy and its my job to know this. A narcotic is a schedule 2. Vicodin is a schedule 3 controlled substance. Soma was not sonsidered a controlled until last year. So to the people who want me to know the facts...get a fricking clue.
If you don't think hydro is a narcotic, you're kidding yourself. And, Vicodin is most certainly considered a narcotic..
Being schedule I, II, III, etc. has no bearing on what the physical component of the drug entails. It is what it is...an OPIOID analgesic.
It binds to opiate receptors in the CNS...a narcotic. And....question there pharmacy man, if someone overdoses on Vicodin, what do you give them? I'm going to give you a hint...it's what you give narcotic o.d. clients, and it's a drug that has a brand name based off what it nullifies.
According to Mosby's, it's a schedule III. That seems wrong though. The ACSCN codes escape me at the moment.

I would have to differ. Vicodin is an opioid and is also narcotic and is a controlled substance rated schedule III by the DEA.
Vicodin is a schedule III drug not schedule II like morphine, meaning it has less abuse potential. Therefore physicians can call out vicodin and write for refills. Schedule II drugs like morphine can not be refilled and every script must be in writing. A medication being an opioid or narcotic has nothing to do with its schedule. The schedule only refers to its abuse potential and to some extent its side effects.
Schedule I is just like schedule II drugs in its high abuse potential except they have NO safe medical use in the US.

So far the plan appears to be deny, deny, deny. I hope there's nothing to the charges because if there is then the correct course of action is apologize and send Payton to rehab before the season starts. If the man needs Vicodin to coach, someone get him a scrip.

Honestly, I think it would be Vitt. Man has had chronic pain for what seems like an eternity.

I am no one important to the Saints. However unfortunatley I am VERY familliar with this situation and unfortunatley it will be not good for the Saints, and I suspect will bleed over to the entire NFL much like steroids did to MLB.
Believe me I am a HUGE Saints fan, and like you all wish this would never have come to light.

I don't know hammer....football and steroid have always been together, but people tend to look the other way.
It's going to be the same thing here, I'm sure. Painkillers across the NFL? Swept under the rug, just like steroids.

I don't know that you can say the NFL swept Steroids under the rug, they actually had a program in place for them, granted it took a while and people like Lyle Alzado sp?
From what I know which by the way isn't everytying by far, this practice seems to be in place across the NFL as far as taking pain meds from the locker that is only supposed to be accesed by licensed professionals. I suspect with digging what has been found with the Saints will be found with just about every other NFL team. Our big problem is the Saints will be used as the example. However as I said, this lawsuit filed by the Security guy is NOT the only thing in the hopper on this issue.

This is true....but quite honestly, it doesn't stop the problem. I've treated a couple of NFL players from 08 that "rainbowed" the screens, and some close coworkers of mine have treated the same over the years, including last year. It's just one of those things, like steroids, that will always be present but not always heard about.

If you know something, spill it. There is nothing that screams douchebag more than claiming TOP SEKRET INFOS and then refusing to say what it is.
As for the matter at hand, Favre was taking Vicodin from his teammates more than a decade ago. I think he went to rehab and gave a presser...

Look, I am trying to give info that Saints fans would like to know/I would like to know if I were on the outside looking in. I can't say much more as I don't want to get my family in trouble. If you want to call me a douche or whatever go ahead.
Last I checked winning an argument on the net was like winning the special olympics.
As far as the pain meds stuff, I hope it will trun out as simple as what favre went through, but I think this won't get swept under the rug as easily. I certainly hope to be proved wrong.
