$11 million under I believe. We were about net zero prior to the Ram restructure, minus the $3mm Gay contract

2021 9-8 did not make playoffs
2022 7-10 did not make playoffs
2023 9-8 did not make playoffs *

* despite one of the easiest schedules in league

It’s not about whether they will be under the cap and be compliant it’s about the quality of the roster. The Saints have one of the oldest and most expensive rosters in the NFL a FO is “win now” mode and have zero to show for it for 3 years. The ceiling is win a crappy division and maybe if you get a lucky matchup in the WC round win a playoff game. They are extending ie committing to more years for aging declining players.

Ok as long as it's for short term deal signings.
Nothing long term or yugge.

The Saints currently have a little over 15M in cap space according to Over the Cap.

(15.097)

But this is before the added Gay dude.

I hope this is an indication that his offseason knee management plan is working and we think he'll be healthy in '24 (and '25?)

If he took a pay cut, with 1.2 million being the base salary or whatever and the rest being a signing bonus, which would effectively make the 6.5 guarantee, then I see it the opposite where he's trying one last time instead of being cut with a major injury flag.

He's getting possibly his last $6.5M it may not get anything else which is why he wanted it guaranteed

The rough math in my head makes this save about 14M

starting qb was injured both years. Trevor fricking Siemien and Andy Dalton weren't winning you shitn that year anyways.

One game away and I'd put a lot of the blame on Pete Carmichael. He's gone now.

Saints aren't that far away from getting back to the playoffs. I wish they would reset like you, but let's not act like they've been playing with a full deck of cards the past 3 seasons.

Not only that, but there is only a 2.4 years difference between the youngest and oldest rosters.

Their argument is that we shouldn't pay Demario "All Pro" Davis or Cam "had an ankle injury most of the season" because we want our average number to come down

Hell, the Jets had the youngest roster one season and the 2nd oldest two years later.

It. doesn't. matter. Keep. our. good. players.

Chad has lost it. I was giving a way for this to save 14M

And looking at OTC, I think I'm right. If they're correct, he gave up about $11M in salary in exchange for a base salary and like $5M in a signing bonus.

We're saving the $11M (ish) base reduction and the $3.23M pro-ration($5.3M over 3 years is 1.76M per). There is your $14M.

Good business for Saints assuming he can play. But I think this signals it's his last year without a miracle recovery.

This also likely pushes his huge dead cap into 2026.

Teams with Baker Mayfield and Joe Flacco who was at home til November made the playoffs

That’s part of the problem The FO is in “win now” mode and so far they have failed to win shite since 2020. And the ceiling is the playoffs not a deep run. It’s a kind of purgatory I was fine with taking a swing with Winston in 21 still had a stacked D but when it didn’t work and the Payton quit, it was time bite the bullet but the Saints doubled down.

Every team has injuries. But how much of that lack of a full deck is the restraints of the cap ? Piss poor drafting has also been an issue. They need to hit on 14, no Penning, or Davenport Turner experiments or stupid trades like Olave and Penning

If you think Trevor semien and andy dalton are on the same level as baker and Joe you are unqualified to have further discussion on this subject sir.

LA Chargers, Bills, and Dolphins are cutting talent left and right for cap reasons. Why is no one shitting on their cap strategy? The Saints, while their cap strategy is bonkers, has had to cut no one, effectively. They lost some in FA, sure, but not outright cap casualty.

Right, Chargers are effectively ruining Herberts career.

We are just ruining Carrs. Which is an acceptable loss lol

Chargers should absolutely be getting more crap for their stuff. They released Williams and will most likely be cutting a multiple of Bosa, Mack, Allen.
