I don't think we have a shot at ware. I honestly don't want any more money tied into the defense unless it's an affordable CB. The o line looks atrocious right now.

I think "atrocious" is a little strong. I'd honestly be fine with resigning Strief to a team friendly deal to stay. DLP is by all accounts gone.
But I'm perfectly fine with Armstead, Evans, and Grubbs for now.

People forget, the o-line looked pretty great the last three games they played against Tampa, Philly, and Seattle running the ball very well.

I agree, we are returning our line from last year that got good pressure. We have too many needs to sign another high priced luxury.

Ware is a pipe dream and I agree I don't want anymore money tied into our D. Lofton Lewis and Byrd are taking some cash.

Agree(though I wouldn't say atrocious; I think Harris could be serviceable).

CB should be the only other starter we look at on defense. All the rest should be for depth.

On offense, I doubt we sign a big WR and think that will be filled through the draft. OL is the only other starters I would look at and I think bargains will do while we try to get long term guys through the draft or that are on the team developed.

Bingo. Detillier called it on the radio awhile back when he said top rated safety will be cheaper to acquire than a FA top rated CB, which he thinks we're more likely to draft.
$3 million less over 6 years. Not much less. I am concerned that we invested so much money in a safety when we have holes all over the OLine. We still have big needs at WR (can be filled in draft) and CB as well. I hope it is a heavily backloaded contract.

so floored for me it's hard to come to grips with. I'm overwhelmed. At first report of this non-Saints media immediately said "that will be the best safety tandem in the NFL". I'll look back but immediately they will vie for the best in Saints history.

One more, what if we add a Kyle Fuller or Bradley Roby #2 CB in the draft? Wowza! The general public still identified this defense more with the historic dreadfulness of 2012 over the 2013 Top 5 rank. This could end up getting dominating beyond stats to what peeps see in SF, Sea, etc.

Plenty of potential dream teams have failed but I gotsta say if I've never seen this much legit potential od defense since the Dome Patrol.

and frick Louis Delmas Chuckling at philly fans watching Malcolm Jenkins bad angles and arm tackles.

Haha a lot of people put off by the word "atrocious." Maybe it was a bit dramatic. Ok. The line is suspect as it stands (no strief or dlp).

I have a guy feeling we get strief back which would be great and we get someone like Goodwin to fill in. It just really needs to be addressed ASAP. I only see a CB signing and we address the rest in the draft. I think WR at 27 for sure

Delmas signed for a little over $2 million (with incentives that could raise it to $3.5 million). That is not a bad deal.

I think we are 1 #2 CB and 1 cover LB away from being extremely dominating.

1 cover LB
This is, by far, our most glaring hole on defense.

The middle of the field is still wide open for passes.
It's honestly really bad.

when we have holes all over the OLine

What holes?

I consider LT, LG, RG all solidified. RT could easily be resigned and I have a feeling we draft our future center.

We let two of our safeties go who both played a ton, we absolutely needed a new starting safety whether in the draft or FA and we went FA. We could have gone either way for any of our needs such as CB, WR.

If we could get Strief back and sign Goodwin as a 1 year stop gap, sign a number 2 corner, draft a stud WR, cover LB, C for the future, and whatever other depth that would be the dream.

I think there will be a CB still left in a few days that we didn't expect to be able to afford that we get. I really think we pick up a CB, resign Streif, and maybe a vet minimum C. We then look to add weapons and beef up the lines in the draft.

No C and no RT are holes. LT is still a bit of an unknown, but I think Payton is comfortable going forward with Armstead (and I think that makes sense).

Yes and it drives me insane.

You look at every other great defense and they have at least one super fast LB that flies around.

I don't see a guy out there in FA so I REALLY hope we hit on one in the draft.
