So my "inside" info is pretty much what we all expected. The Saints are waiting for the player suspensions so they can know where they lie with the cap. Specifically, I was told that they expect vilma to be out 10 games to all year, which also makes the Lofton/Hawthorne signings more important.

Basically, Goodell is fricking us again by taking his time with these suspensions. I have yet to hear any kind of time table on it. So Brees' will miss the workouts, but they are more focused on the OTAs which are the week of May 21st.

I don't think he's taking his time to punish the Saints more, I think he's taking his time to figure out the perfect penalty, maximum effect on discouraging bounties while minimizing protests and problems from the players union. Goodell isn't Judge, Jury and Executioner on this one.

yeah, its a pretty common sense rumor, so it has the best chance of being true.

just means Goodell sucks and Brees wont be there Monday.

Goodell is doing us a massive disservice by delaying the player suspensions.

We need to sign Brees and draft according to our suspensions.

The frustrating thing is that while I'm not usually "conspiracy theory" guy, I feel that Goodell is punishing SP and Loomis for appealing. This has investigation has been closed for weeks, perhaps months. They've had an idea of who they want to punish and for how long for a long time now. But they're sitting on it, knowing it's screwing the FO over in their negotiations to resign Brees.

The NFL knows that Loomis has been punking FA this year and we're going to be fine, so they're using the last piece of leverage they have to screw with us.

after reading their report on the findings, i agree. they had players listed in it, so they obviously have that figured out. and theres been absolutely no news of what theyre doing right now in regards to the punishments.

that may be true, but we are around 400k under the cap. we have absolutely nothing to give right now.

Jeff Duncan did tweet couple of days ago that when the saints sign Brees to a long term deal the saints can save about 2-4 million in cap room for this year

I agree with you, but he sure didn't take his time issuing out Payton's penalties, that's for sure.

I thought the original problem was that Brees didn't want to sign a backloaded contract.

So, why does Duncan think he knows what the contract will be?

I thought I saw somewhere that that included the Brees Franchise Tag.
