Gilmore is the player to go after.
I'll take a true shut down corner

This is dumb anyway.
Watt is a shell of himself

My only concern with that is his salary and already being 30. He's played GREAT the last 2-3 years, but how long does that keep up? Lattimore is having a horrible year, but he is only 24 and Janoris playing okay but he is 32. They are all under contract through 2021 only. You cannot keep all 3, so I would imagine a trade for Gilmore or another CB like that would include us trading either Lattimore or Jenkins. You can never have too many good CBs. Our biggest need right now is SS/FS though. I'd be looking at Earl Thomas or a trade for another one.

Watt wouldn't be a bad pickup. I'd love to see a Nascar package with Davenport, Jordan, Watt, Hendrickson all in at the same time.

I guess these rumor people don't realize we got this thing called the salary cap.

Well, if NE trades Gilmore to us I believe they take the cap hit for the rest of his signing bonus on his contract and we don't have to pay that. We only have to pay his base salary. According to Over the Cap, the Saints had around 7-8 million in cap space to start the season (or maybe that is our current space? Not sure honestly). Gilmore's base salary is about 13 million this year and 7 next year. So, I am not sure how much of his base this year would be prorated to us vs what our prorated cap space is currently. However, I'm assuming we are still a few million short of being able to afford him this year, but I also don't think it's some astronomical number to overcome and we could make the room for him if we needed to.

TL;DR: I am not a cap expert by any means but I don't think it's as impossible as people think to make the salary work

Does this even help while we still have that bum as DB coach?

Him and Brees on the same team would be too much virtue signaling in one place. It would likely tear a rift in the space-time continuum.

Your thread title sucks. It’s not a rumor it’s an article written about trades the author would like to see happen.

The only way I can see us trading for a D-Lineman is if Cam Jordan or Davenport goes down for the season. Our run defense would take a big hit if we lost 1 of them.

Trading for a DT, DE, or any offensive player would confuse the hell out of me.

The only positions I could see us trading for would be SS, FS, & CB. Maybe LB if the coaches aren't confident in Kiko Alonso's healthy return from injury. Demario Davis, a healthy Kiko Alonso, & Anzalone is fine for our top 3 LB's.

I don't think Gilmore is in need of coaching from anyone. He'll be legit until his age catches up with him.
