I'm sure it's been discussed here but I could not find what I was looking for in the search. (I'm also sure it's operator error)

What Ruiz doing on every snap looking back at the QB then turning his head and pointing at the defense right before the snap? Kind of a tell as to when the ball is coming out right"

Anyway that just caught my eye and once I saw it I could not stop focusing on it.

they don't trust Jameis to call an audible HUT.

It is a bit of a tell but the defense still has to wait on McCoy to snap it. It is supposed to eliminate the confusion on jameis lifting his leg and potentially snapping when he’s not ready for the ball.

But as you saw yesterday, we still managed to screw it up on a big play in the game.

Many teams do this. Winston calls for the ball, Guard touches Center, Center snaps. Center is also suppose to be able to adjust the time from touch to snap so defense can't key.

If Ruiz is also pointing at the defense, he could be making last minute adjustments/calls to where he'll engage for the Center. This is usually a job for the interior lineman that has the better understanding of the calls; typically has been the Center but you are seeing more and more guards take this on.

He is pointing out to the Q.B. where a potential unblocked rusher could be. They can't lift their plant hand to point but are allowed to use the free hand before a snap. If he doesn't turn his head and points he is communicating to the other linemen who he is taking or who to take. Teams have been successful using a delayed blitz against the Saints.

Perhaps but it really didn't seem like he was doing that.

Just looking back as Winston or listening for something then looked forward and snapped his hand out not really pointing at anything in particular. Seemed like just a quick hand wave to signal "ok we're ready to snap."

I can't recall seeing any other team doing this or anything similar.

Not sure about OPs question but Ruiz has improved, not a lot, but some. He got unloaded on pulling once though
