Realistically, what would the Saints get for Derek Carr in a post-June 1 trade?

I know we hate the guy, but after the restructure the Saints have already paid him so a team would be getting a starting QB with a minimal cap hit. That has real value, even if he's Derek Carr. A 3rd? 3rd and a player? More? I have no idea, but there's no sense trading him for less since there'd be no significant cap savings. I know this is a pipe dream, but wondering...

I wouldn’t take less than a 2nd. We taking a huge cap hit this benefit for them who gets him. Slim chance but giants and Steelers maybe teams to watch.

Hasn’t the time to trade him and it actually benefit our franchise passed?

Yes no. Makes him more valuable when we are eating the cap chunk and he’s got a lot of non guaranteed money left

Whether he plays or is traded, cap hit is the same next season (60 million or so). Only difference is we couldn't restructure him again to spread it out.

Say we drafted Shedeur at 9 and think he can start, why not get something for Derek and have the cap hit for QB position next year stay about the same?

who would be trading for Carr? It would need to be a much more loaded roster than what the Saints have. The Saints could max out at like maybe 7-8 wins if guys stayed healthy and the ball bounced the Saints way.

it is what made signing him in the first place just such a terrible move that was set in motion by a lame duck head coach.

It' isn't all on Carr. He took an offer that no other team was giving when he came here. His wishy washy/super sensitive personality however is uninspiring and for that he deserves to get slammed.

but not for taking what was offered to him.

The point is the other team won't have to pay him, we do. How could an extra $60 million in cap space help improve the roster of the Steelers or Giants or Browns or whoever?

Voucher to chipotle? Maybe?

I don’t think we’d get more than a 5th.

We should be giving picks for another team to take over his abomination of a contract.

Dude is straight up dogshit.

I’d give a 2 today to wipe the slate clean of that mistake.

I was referring to more from a cap relief perspective in terms of missing the boat on trading him. I’d love him off the roster either way because he’s just a blah player and dude that isn’t the future. If Moore wants to take a swing at someone I’m 110% for it.

A negligible increase in draft capital doesn’t offset the new hit to me.

The fact that you don't know that the Saints are paying his contract whether he is traded or not tells me you should not be giving your opinion in this thread. No one can "take over" his contract, but they can get a really cheap QB. Educate yourself before posting next time.

My understanding is that there would be no "new hit" to the Saints. Same cap hit in 2026 whether he is traded or not, just won't be able to defer some of that hit to 2027 if he is traded. Isn't that what we want, to get him off the books sooner rather than later?

I'd need at least a 3rd round pick plus something (another 3rd or 4th, a player) or a 2nd to make it worthwhile for the Saints.
