People Forget Jimmy Johnson’s Constant Drafting Mantra….”I Want PLAYMAKERS”

Following Jimmy’s Line of Thought to ALWAYS Draft PLAYMAKERS ……
Realistic Offensive/Defensive PLAYMAKERS who might drop to #9 Overall would a small group:
—Jeanty (RB)
—Warren (TE)
—Abdul Carter (DE)
—Mason Graham (DT)
If they are not available at #9…..
TRADE BACK no further than # 20 (get extra 2nd rd pick) and Geaux with BPA.

Jimmy Johnson’s playmakers succeeded because they played behind one of if not the the most dominant line of all time.
Also who the hell DOESN’T want to draft playmakers? Every coach/ gm in the league is looking to draft a playmaker of some form in every single pick made. 99+% of the players drafted were “playmakers” or they wouldn’t be considered to be drafted.
What an absolutely pointless statement.

That entire team was loaded and a big reason was they got to be coached by Jimmy Johnson.

If Tyler Warren is there you have to take him. He’s a no doubt star and his character and leadership is very well known from his time at Penn State. I just can’t take a RB at 9. You can find a good RB in round 3. This guy is the package deal that can do it all while letting Juwan be the #2 TE that will still play a lot in Kellen Moore’s system.

Seems there were so many years the Falcons went with this playbook and their team started going downhill. Outside of a QB, or a generational talent at CB, WR, or TE, I'm of the belief to go O or D line first 2 rounds every year, whoever is the BPA on the line.
We've picked the correct positions many times, but the players haven't panned out. I did agree with us taking Lattimore as he was a generational talent coming out of college.

Not a cowboys fan, but I agree fully. With this new staff, let’s hope they draft guys that actually showed what they want them to be at the level they’ve just finished playing at. NO MORE drafting guys that haven’t done it and needs to be developed (Davenport).
Also if you are drafting in the TOP 10, it means your team is LACKING BLUECHIP TALENT. They need to keep the pick and Draft the type of talent this team has been lacking for years now.

Here’s my point:
Saints don’t draft playmakers…
They draft PROJECTS.
They find players who have high RAS scores at the combine but really haven’t done much at all in college…. thinking they can coach them into better players. You are forced to do this in Later draft rounds 4th and beyond…. Understandably, but don’t do it withDraft Picks in 1st, 2nd and 3rd round.
More specifically, Saints have done this with OL and DL in last 5-7 years ending in disaster. We all know the OL and DL busts taken in the 1st and 2nd rounds in last few years.
Case In Point with 2025 Draft:
There has been chatter about Saints considering Shemar Stewart (DE from Tx AM) with Pick #9. He’s only garnered1.5 sacks each of last 2 years… but they rave about his 6-5, 285 lb frame and potential he might have after having a 10 out of 10 RAS score at the combine. Again another PROJECT !!
At least pick players that have considerable achievement in college !!
That’s what I’m talking about !!!
Yeah, yeah, yeah…. The draft is a crap shoot and everyone wants playmakers.
Taken proven players in first 3 rounds….
Rounds 4th and later you are forced to take small school players based on potential after over 100 picks have been made.
Stop taking Projects with 1st and 2nd Rd picks…. Recently history has shown, overall, Saints have NOT been unsuccessful.

I’m going for a Triple Post.
Go sit down and have a whiskey with a cigar.

I don’t disagree that I’d rather take some guys with a bit more of a track record. Hopefully the new regime leans that way as opposed to the Payton/allen/loomis potential guys.

Will Johnson is a nice corner but he’s hurt too damn much.
Scratch him from list of candidates.

Yeah I wouldn’t mind Johnson if he slipped or by some miracle we traded back. I kinda hate the pick at 9.
