No he didn't, I believe he ran a 4.4 something. Regardless, OSU has a fast track so you have to knock a little off his 40 time.
40 time is usually overrated but its not for a CB. They usually have to be the fastest, most athletic players on the field. They're at a disadvantage itself due to NFL rules now, so the big/physical CBs aren't in high demand as they use to be. Remember the days when Eagles receivers were getting violently bumped at the line of scrimmage and they couldn't do dick? Those are long over.
Jenkins will sit in a Cover 2 scheme or a FS, he'll never be a Man CB, period. So unless the Saints move to a Zone scheme, I don't think we'll see him much at CB. And hes too much of a risk at FS. Him being called "versatile" is just another way of saying he has no true defined position because he has too many question marks, IMO.

4.47 to 4.52 on pro day
PS-
Ed Reed's predraft 40 was 4.57
Asomugha 4.5
those worked out okay

those are wrong
reed ran in the 4.45-4.50 range
'nandi ran in the 4.35-4.40 range. he was drafted pretty much b/c he was a great athlete. was not a good player
jenkins ran a 4.55-4.58 at OSU's pro day. the same proday that has a super fast track that most add 0.2 on the 40 to compensate

Jenkins, who is being looked at as a safety as well as a cornerback due to slow times in the 40, tried to improve on his 40 numbers at the pro day, but was unsuccessful. He turned in times of 4.58 and 4.55 in Columbus after running between 4.52 and 4.58 at the NFL combine in Indianapolis

Thought I read somewhere he ran a 4.4 something? Doesn't really matter considering OSU is on a fast track.

That is a little disturbing if you think about it because that means hes probably closer to the 4.7 range...

Ohio State cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, the Jim Thorpe Award winner, clocked 40-yard dash times ranging from 4.47 to 4.52 seconds today at his campus Pro Day workout, according to Albert Breer of SportingNews.com.

Defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha of Cal ran a 4.48 in the 40-yard dash at the combine in February, then improved his time with a 4.38 at the university. Once considered to be a fifth- or sixth-round selection, Asomugha could now leap into the second or third round.

S Edward Reed
(5-11 1/8, 205, 4.51) Miami (Fla.)
Not as big as scouts would like a safety to be or as fast as they would like at cornerback. Has some trouble playing the deep ball, especially when it is thrown over his head.

all the naysayers about his speed dont know squat. There is a reason he was still rated so highly, despite his 40 time.
Corey Webster runs a 4.55-4.60 and he is one of the best corners in football right know.
Ty Law was a 4.5 guy, and the highest paid corner in the league is a 4.5 guy as well (the guy for the raiders, i'm not trying to spell his name or go look it up---but you know who i'm talkin about).
Jenkins is not particularlly fast, but he ran a 6.53 cone drill which is sooo quick for a guy his size.
He also hit 15 bench reps, and is a solid six foot 200, with 34 and 1/2 inch arms... thats as long as some of the top offensive lineman in the draft, Britton, the tackle from Arizona drafted in the 2nd round only has 32 inch arms.. He has extremely long arms, and good ball skills. He has the reach of a guy thats 6 foot 7.
Combine that with the good stats and game footage/game speed, and the fact that he has started since he was a freshman, over 40 games started in college, and you know you are getting and exp corner.
He is the best DB in the draft, regardless of his 40 time, glad to have him, but I still wish we had traded back for more picks...but Jenkins is a good pick.

frick. After seeing that quote from the staff on Jenkins, I now know I fricked up in not sending them a copy of the OSU vs UF, LSU, USC and Texas games. Great ball skills?
We should have traded with the Broncos or pretty much anyone - hell - take Matthews, Wells, D Brown, McCoy, Jerry, S Smith...pretty much anyone but the overhype Alex Molden Jr.

4.55-4.60 is solid, but not exactly target #s for a FS.
The 40 time is a worthless assessment of someones speed take marcques colston for example he too ran a 4.55 40 and as we all know he out ran the entire Green Bay Packers secondary on monday night football and lance moore who also out ran that secondary and many other people ran a 4.56 and too top it all off Anquan Boldin ran a 4.7 40 so you dont have to have great speed to be a great corner you have to be physical and have a great knowledge of the game which is what Jenkins has now stop hating

I've seen the dude on the field. He doesn't play at a 4.5 or 4.6 speed. He has great football speed from what I've seen. I've had my eye on him all season.
