Trying to remember a Saints game from about 1991 or so. The Saints lost late and I vividly remember my friend's mom blaming it on a shanked punt by the Saints. Like a 15-yard punt or something. I can't remember whether it was a regular season game or a playoff game. It was a late afternoon or night game I think. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I'm going to venture a gues that it was against the Falcons in November. 91 would have been Tommy Barnhardt. And that's the only game we lost where his yards per punt were below average for him.

I don't know the answer but I was a fan in those days, even flew in for a game that year, so I guess that makes me an old timer.... which I'm not sure I'm a fan of...

Yes I believe that's right. I'm pretty sure all he had to do was rip off a good one and the saints would have won. The shite punt gave the falcons a chance to score and sent it to ot

I was at a Saints vs 49ers game back in the Dome Patrol days. Both teams were 7-0 and there was a shanked punt in that game that was horrendous. Of course 49ers won and about half way through the 4th quarter, all the Saints 8-0 buttons that everyone was wearing started flying out on the field.

It was a Sunday night game in the dome against Atlanta.
Barnhardt shanked a punt for about 17 yds. Atlanta beat us with a field goal in OT.

10/27/91 Saints/Bears Barnhardt shanks punt. Jim Harbaugh to Tom Waddle 20-17 Bears ending Saints season opening win streak at 7-0.

Thanks for the replies guys! I think it was this game:

because it started at 4:00, which lines up with my memory of it. I don't think I'd have still been awake when the 8:00 Falcons game ended at my age then.

Morton hit a 60-yarder at the halftime horn.

And probably a 25-er or two after the game.

The Great Dane did not get cheated.

Wasn't this the game where Morten had a 60 yard field goal right before halftime

ETA - crap. It's crazy how that was such a big deal back then I remembered that ball was crushed it was kind of a line drive
