payton

Look at his tackle tally at Wake, and it's obvious that he's a strong safety.

he plays weak against the run though. he lets guys run into him

he had 14 PBUs as a junior. that is a FS stat

so we're definitely playing jenkins at CB?

that's what the team/jenkins said yesterday, and since we drafted a FS with our next pick i just don't see drafting 2 FS

Hilarious how we f things up.

Jenkins could turn out to be a probowl FS but we will set him up for failure at CB!

Take Vaughn and put him OUT OF POSITION to FS when he's a classic SS!

Take Arnoux and take a classic MLB and move him to WLB. Kid can't cover and now you have him moving into a LB spot that HAS to cover well! Stupid.

Keep Harper at SS so teams can throw it at him every time they need a big play to win the game. SEE CAROLINA AND CHICAGO LAST YEAR!

Vaughn seems like a clone of Harper..Solid/good against the run and terrible ball skills when the balls in the air..so i dont kno if hes an upgrade over Roman but he should def. play SS

vaughn is a much, much better athlete than harper

He has good ball skills for a SS.He'll get eaten alive at FS. Here's what we should be doing:

Porter and Greer starters
Gay nickle and Torrence dime

Jenkins at FS, with Sharper and Young backups
Vaughn at SS with Harper as backup

That's what it SHOULD be, but we'll f it up. Watch.

I'm pretty sure they will try Jenkins at CB first and if he doesnt work there then we will try him at FS. Also, in our new scheme the FS&SS are supposed to be interchangeable. I have no doubt they will look at Vaughn at both safety spots to see which he is better suited for.

quote:

he wrested the starting free safety job as a junior, but many professional scouts feel that Vaughn's speed, size and ability vs. the run is more suited for strong safety at the next level.

quote:

He positions himself well and delivers jarring hits. He’s always around the ball and looks to create turnovers. He’s aggressive at the line of scrimmage against the run, but even though he’s quick, he struggles in coverage.

quote:

Positives: Looks the part. Rare size and upper-body development for the position. Aggressive defender that attacks in run support. Reliable open-field tackler. Heavy hitter that can separate the ballcarrier from the ball, resulting in forced fumbles and passes broken up. Appears to have at least adequate straight-line speed, good balance and a low backpedal. Good leaping ability to battle for the ball. Has developed a reputation for game-changing plays over his career. Came to Wake Forest as a wide receiver and is still an ascending player. Negatives: Better in run support than against the pass. Questionable instincts. A step slow in recognizing the action and has a hitch in his turn. May lack the agility to mirror routes. Better facing the quarterback. Loses track of the ball and has only marginal hand-eye coordination for the interception. Surrounded by a great deal of talent at Wake Forest.

Experts seem to disagree w/ you SFP about him being bad against the run...

14 PBUs as a junior = good ball skills
but
100 tackles = bad against the run

Youre not manipulating the stats they way u want, huh?

that may be the lineup in a few years

you underrate his ball skills. he's got the skills to play FS

it's on williams to coach him up

he's more athletic and a good bit faster than jenkins

i didn't say he was bad against the run

he let guys come to him

people see his tackles and think, "OMG HE'S A STUD," but you could do the same thing with a guy like keith brooking or james laurinitis. a tackle 10 yards past the LOS counts the same as one 1 yard past teh LOS

Chip Vaughn6'2, 221 pounds | Wake Forest | Strong safety

Strengths: As far as safeties in this class go, few look as natural as Vaughn. He has good size and plays with a lot of strength. He can be an intimidating force deep and will really lay a hit on an opponent. As a senior, he supported against the run really well, making several key plays in the backfield. Uses his power in the pass game to break up passes and had 20 over his final two seasons at Wake Forest.

Weaknesses: Watching Vaughn, it's readily apparent that he needs to learn how to react quicker to plays. Struggles in man coverage mostly because he doesn't have the lateral agility to move around with ease. Doesn't play up to his timed speed (4.42 at the Combine). Had some issues with inconsistency during his senior year. For a former wide receiver, Vaughn has pretty bad hands and doesn't make a lot of interceptions.

payton said they were staring jenkins off at CB, vaughn at FS and arnaux at WLB. And he specifically said they were starting them off there as if to say they're not necessarily playing there 4evs.

it's possible that porter/greer and jenkins/vaughn lock it down in 2 years

williams is a big cover 2 guy, so having 2 S who can cover is prolly gunna be important
