Reggie White was pretty fricking awesome for the Packers.

Yeah, I'd say Reggie has a good case as well.

The Packers were a joke when the idea of Free Agency was introduced. Nobody in their right mind would want to go there...and then Reggie White talks to god

I know White was a big acquisition but with a Super Bowl win for the Saints Brees is easily number one and it is not even close.

I just happened to see their top 10 FA show....
It reminded me of the impact he had on the Saints, Miami, and yes our tide friends should know, alabama!

I think "it's not even close" is too aggressive. I'd agree that Brees's impact makes him a solid #1, but I think that White has a strong case for being the best DE of all time. Brees would need to win 4 straight SB's for him to be the clear-cut #1 QB ever.

Brees has the advantage because QB is by far the most important position in the NFL, DE is a fairly distant 2nd.

To think what would have happened if Drew Brees was signed by the Dolphins!
Saints wouldn't have Super Bowl win?
CSP may have been fired years ago?
saban would have stayed in Miami at least another 2-3 years?
Where would alabama be now? Who would have been their coach? How many championships?
It's interesting how that one move affected so many...

Of course, will end of having most passing records before he retires, as a New Orleans Saints. Amazing considering the years we struggled at QB including the dual Billy Joe's.

He made the New Orleans Saints a Super Bowl champion, and for that reason, I'm in.

I disagree. White was certainly an unexpected pickup, put GB's fortunes had started to change the year before with Holmgren coming in as the HC and Favre being inserted as the starting QB. They went 9-7 the year before White arrived and 9-7 in his first year in GB. No doubt White helped, but with Favre and Holmgrem the Packers were already on an upward trajectory.

Contrast that with the Saints before Brees' arrival. They were 3-13 in 2005 and didn't even know if they would remain in NOLA after that season. Brooks was the QB and going nowhere. Brees comes in in 2006 and the Saints (a team that had only won 1 playoff game in their entire history) gets to the NFC Championship game.

Bottom line: Without White, the Favre/Holmgren Packers are still a force in the NFL. Without Brees, the Saints are likely still one of the worst franchises in professional sports. It COMPLETELY changed the franchise. With star QB's rarely hitting FA, it may be a long time until we ever see another FA signing that impactful. IMO it's #1, and there is not even a close second.

You could make the argument that if Brees had stayed in San Diego and had success the Chargers might have a new stadium and still be in San Diego.

And let's not forget about LSU!
If Saban stays at Miami....does LSU have 1-2 more National Championships?
