I rather hear that he is doing awesome than hearing "he rode exercise bike during practice"

I did see those in another thread. This is the reason I love preseason football. I know I am in the minority, but I love watching the backups play for positions. I have no idea why.

And yes, Chip looks the part....I sure hope he can play the part.

I think his size and willingness to lay the big hit will fit in well with GW's plans in the future... I just don't know about his ball skills. He could very well be a replica of Harper. But nonetheless, I'm extrememly jacked up about this new defense.

maybe the 40 isn't everything..

and then again, maybe it's just rookie camp, and nobody there is fast enough to expose him

Wait for it...wait...

Maybe, just MAYBE, people put too much stock into his 40 time at the combine?

Nah, nevermind, that's impossible. 40 times = HoF. If you don't run a 4.3 before you're drafted, then you're a career benchwarmer.

4.5 sure seems like hauling arse to me...but i don't know, I couldn't run a 7.5 who am I to judge? Should't acceleration and the ability to change directions be more of a priority for a CB/S hybrid? (which imo is either what he already is or will be) Combine times of two dbacks that from what I hear don't suck: Champ Baily: 4.28 DeAngelo Hall: 4.15 ( what a circus freak). How does straight line speed determine ability to cover? I understand that some teams have some stupidly fast receivers, but we already have our own jet fighter in Porter (seen recorded as low as a 4.31), how many teams have more than one elite speedster? Anyway, I just don't think his 1/10 of a second slower will be such a huge liability, though that's just my gut feeling. Hopefully he will be our head hunter with Sharper in the secondary ...creating havoc and making receivers regret going to the middle of the field.

Don't they also wear some kind of safety gear on gameday that may slow them down?

well there's speed than there is football speed. guys who can move without pads can't necessarily transition into great football speed.

I believe Usama Young ran in the 4.3s at the combine.

He doesnt play anywhere near that on the field. He gets jogged by in coverage.

I think it's pointless to put that much stock in having them run without pads on. if you strap on the pads, or even a helment, I think you get a better idea of what your getting.
