Looking at Brooks on tape, dude reminded me so much of Demario Davis. Well built, tapered dude who flies to ball & rips down defenders. You can really tell he is a great athlete. But not much coverage film. Read some blurbs, not so much that he is bad in coverage, but that he just doesn’t do it much.
So I pulled up Davis’ pre-draft report.
At the time, “athletic ability really doesn’t translate to pass defense. Looks awkward in zone.”
We of course now know that he is more than adequate in coverage.
Here is what the same guy says about Brooks:
In so many words; looks awkward in coverage.
I guess my point is, the guy is clearly athletic enough to learn that, just as Davis was. I know that is not always the case. But the body is there. The traits are there.
Strengths just for fun:

Delpit is my sleeper pick. It’s not a need but I love Delpit’s game. His tackling issues were more from technique, he’s not scared to tackle at all.

I mean, I think Brooks would be a slight upgrade over Klein. A little more athletic. Certainly just as good if not better against the run. Can’t be any worse in coverage. I can’t remember but did people question Navarro Bowman’s coverage coming out of Penn State? He has a very similar build to Brooks but Brooks is a little faster than Bowman was. Bowman was a third round guy so there had to be some knocks to his game
Although it has to be said that Payton and company also like size and prototypes in players. I’d rather Brooks than Murray but I can see where they like Murray more just because he’s got the prototype build and athleticism

This is just a deep dive
Davis was a small school prospect
Brooks plays at a renowned offensive school who hasn’t put out many defensive players.
What is his perception if he played at LSU? Or Bama? Or Florida?
Just food for thought.

I see a lot of Navarro Bowman in him but Bowman was no slouch in coverage. Was he good at that at Penn State?
I’d like Brooks but he’s another guy I’ve seen slated all over the god damn place. From first all the way to third round. In a perfect world we take Gladney in the first and trade back up for Brooks. I think he’s solidified himself as the guy behind Simmons, Murray and Queen and interestingly enough, Bowman was the fourth ranked LB prospect but taken as the eighth LB

Just looked at Jordyn Brooks on NFL site.
NFL comparison -AJ Klein.

PFF’s last mock has us taking Denzel Mims and has Weaver going in the 1st FYI

How long till some shite bomb drops on a draft prospect. It's dirty but seems to happen every year.

Needs to happen to Simmons

Yeah let's hear Okudah has character concerns and let him fall to us. Lol.

Warming up to Mims. Guys catch radius is insane. Needs to work on his route running though.

Yeah he's a beast. Fast as hell too.
Someone get me a sticky. Never had one before.

Article not only on why Aiyuk won't be our pick at 24, but won't even be a 1st rounder. For WW who asked "what you got" in another thread. Queen, JJets, Ruiz, Pittman Jr, Gladney. I'm not taking 600 yds and 4-5 TDs from Aiyuk at 24 overall when I can get the same production at pick 88 or 130.

I’d be absolutely shocked if Jefferson is there at 24.
As much as I’m against LSU homerism on the Saints, I don’t see how they pass him up if he’s there.

I am usually hard on LSU players and extra critical of them when it comes to the draft but I think Jefferson would awesome with the Saints. He's fast, catches everything, and can pluck the ball in traffic. Would be an awesome get at 24 but I'm doubting he gets that far.

For every no name guy, who I just read on his twitter admits he knows nothing about Wr, there are 3 guys that really like Aiyuk
If they don’t like him there are plenty of WR & skills to choose from

I’ve seen several, several people who have Aiyuk 5th behind Jefferson. He had a freshman throwing him the ball in a not as friendly passing offense, at least not as friendly as it was a season ago.
The QB only had two picks, but he also only threw 17 TDs. That’s not great

I'm sure it will change many times by Thursday, but Mims is my wish at 24.

So his employer said something like, "well we know you don't know anything about WRs, but we're requesting a bit from you about a WR"....? Obviously not. You won't find many in the draft community who don't like Aiyuk, but he's a significant reach at 24 given what will be available at 88. (Jefferson, Edwards, etc.)
