You’re bitching about something that hasn’t even happened yet. What is wrong with you?

What about the other 7 draft picks we gave up for him? You gonna do that every time?

We gave up the 27th pick last year and the 30th pick this year to move up to the 14th spot.
Just to put that in perspective, using today's values, the 14th pick is worth 1100 points. The 27th pick is worth 680 points and the 30th pick is worth 620 points. So if we had both picks in today's draft, we gave up 200 points to take a player who plays a premium position, a position of need, that oozes potential. Also, Davenport is 1 of only 2 DEs drafted before pick 46 and 1 of only 4 DEs drafted before the third round (so there was not much talent there last year.)
Based on last year's draft, you gave up the chance to draft RB Rashaad Penny and CB Mike Hughes for Davenport. Regarding this year, Mike D has said that this draft is 21 players deep and that everyone from 22 to 60 are rated similarly. So for this year, you can consider the 30th pick a second rounder.
I make this trade 100 out of 100 times.

Seeing some of the contacts DEs are signing, giving up a first seems pretty minimal.

It's gonna happen.
You know the kind of posters we get here on Draft day.

If anything, that stretch of games before he hurt his foot shows me we got even more of a steal. If you repick the 2018 Draft, there is no way Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Fitzpatrick, etc get picked above him. The top would probably play out the same way with Mayfield, Barkley, Darnold, Ward, Chubb and Nelson getting picked. I would probably still pick Roquan Smith over him, but that puts him in the top 8.
So you got a top 8 pick for the 14th pick based on his potential and how he played prior to injury. You could make the argument that that pick was worth 1400 points, so we won on the player and on the points.
Ask yourself if Green Bay would make that trade again, given how everything played out. There is 0 chance that they would prefer two late round picks for a legit edge rusher.
