We have roughly 50 days to burn until Training Camp so I figured let's see how everyone feels about the current roster. Here are my 3 reasons.

1) Quality Depth: I know. Everyone will scream "Well the 2017 Saints had 20+ people on IR and was a miracle away from the NFC Championship Game!" which is very true! However, some of those guys were playing over their head. We now have at minimum 2 layers of quality depth from starter to team 2.

Think about our Team 2 for a second:

QB - (N/A here. If Drew goes down, we're screwed) // Taysom Hill

RB - Scott / Edmunds

WR - Tre'Quan / Coleman / Lewis

TE - Hoo-Man / Hill

OG - Bushrod

C - Clapp

OT - (Only position of concern)

/--------------------------------------------------/

DE - Okafor / Muhammed

DT - Onyamomma

LB - Teo / Roberston / Klein

CB - Robinson / PJ Williams

SS - Bell

FS - Banjo (Ehhh lol)

So essentially only two positions don't hold "quality" tags in our SECOND TEAM.

2. The Minnesota Miracle: Teams need a rallying point. We clearly have one. The challenge will be when we beat Minnesota in Minnesota again, do we become complacent?

3. Will convert Bigly on 3rd downs. It's no secret, the Saints were pretty bad on 3rd down conversions. The Minnesota Miracle doesn't happen if we convert that 3rd down. With the new influx of talent at the WR, RB, and TE positions. We should be on the right side of that statistic this season.

Biggest reason is I just can’t see us losing eleven players on defense to injury

Of course now that I’ve said that....

Young players got valuable experience.

Williams, Kamara, lattimore, crawley, rankins, ram

Even Thomas and peat are still young. We had monsterous contributions from rookies and 2-3 year players. They all got valuable playoff experience and will have a full offseason to get better

Plus we signed key veterans on defense.. coleman and Davis will provide much need veteran presence for our young secondary and lb corps

Better receiving threats
Healthier defense
Brees does not drop off

Bonus: Schedule, most tough teams are in the Dome

This is probably the single biggest reason we didn't get better seeding and/or go further in the playoffs. We're used to being top 3 in 3rd down % and pretty sure we were around 17th this year.

You mention that 3rd and 1, but don't forget about that last offensive drive in the playoff game against Carolina. Wasn't that a 3rd and 2 and then 4th and 2 we didn't convert on? We turn the ball over giving Carolina a chance to score a TD and win the game. Thankfully Cam is a dumbass and about 7 people sacked him to win the game.

Any chance the Saints resign Delvin Breaux?

Sure if our 1-5 CB's have injuries during the season.

When healthy (giant if), he's better than everyone but Lattimore and maybe Robinson. Unless the bridge is torched, I think it'd be a mistake to not bring him back to camp.

Breaux is not better than the following:

Lattimore
Crawley
Robinson
PJ Williams

The best ability is availability and Breaux has shown he has zero of that kind of ability.

He could beat out Maulet at this point if he has a healthy two legs.

Crawley took a mega leap in terms of quality. You have to remember, he was thrown at way more due to Lattimore locking down his side of the field. We were picked on primarily in the slot because PJ was meh at it, so we brought in the best slot CB in the league.

I pointed out the qualifier.

Lattimore - No
Crawley - On par or better
Robinson No based on Philly, but not light years better
PJ Williams Absolutely yes

Again, health is the giant question, but when healthy he was our #1 guy and showing it.

I agree, people show no love for breaux bc they only remember he’s injury prone, and rightfully so. If he is healthy and can play certain packages, he will contribute. He’s a starting corner on most teams

He's better than pj Williams.

He's not better than lattimore, Crawley, or Robinson in the slot.

Bringing him back isn't a horrible idea, a healthy Breaux gets playing time though. He can play special teams as well.

Might sound like a broken record for this thread but,
1. Better pass rush with Davenport and healthier front 7.
2. Less Injuries, cant get any worse than 28 players going on IR.
3. Higher 3rd down conversion record. Having more offensive weapons at Drew's disposal will only help.

He had 1 good season and 1 IR, another he was hobbled by injury but didn't play well. You can't point to tape from 3 years ago and say he's the same player. If you could say he's a starter for most teams he would be on a roster right now, and he is not.

This is a team with lots of young talent on it. We don't have many roster spots available, especially when you factor in the draft picks from the last 2 seasons. He will not be a Saint again.
