Voters can split their votes -- i.e. giving Rodgers half a vote and Brees half a vote

I didnt know that.

This was on Mike & Mike where he also said if he had a vote he would split it between R&B.

Earlier Chris Carter had said the same thing.

MMQB

Peter King has a solid take on it all. He picks AR, but at least his reasons are clear and concise.

ETA: He also gives all of his reasons, and talks about how hard of a vote it was for him to make. He also put it to vote on Twitter and Drew won by a solid margin.

The Sportsnation poll on ESPN was pretty interesting. 44,000 + votes and Drew was ahead with 47%.

It is crap that AR is probably going to win the MVP. I believe the number one factor in peoples mind is last years playoffs and Super Bowl victory. I realize that no one will say that and that the award is supposed to be about this year only, I am convinced that if the Packers had lost in the first round last year, Drew would be a sure thing at MVP.

Peter King is a dope, and the guys at KissingSuzyKolber slaughter his column weekly.

i'm not questioning whether he's nationally renown or not, and he's obviously respected enough to be given a vote for AP awards and the HOF. however, i don't care for him. nearly every week he will contradict himself within the column. he spends a huge amount of column space talking about everything but football (like coffee, the hardships of being a traveling member of the media staying in fine hotels and eating on expense accounts, or the red sox).

one of his arguments in rodgers' favor is that the packers won the head-to-head matchup. ignoring the fact that brees had at least as good a game (32/49 for 419 and 3 TD's vs. 27/35 for 312 and 3 TD's). he also states that he doesn't want statistics to unduly affect the vote, and goes on to seemingly penalize brees for throwing the ball more times than rodgers.

FWIW, i'm cool w/ brees or rodgers winning or splitting (i'd obviously prefer brees gets a share but they're both awesome). what's really annoying is when king breaks down hall of fame discussions. but thank goodness he keeps writing so KSK can keep eviscerating it.

this is pure ignorance. how is it "crap" to give the MVP to a QB who sets the record for QB Rating (122.5!!!!), has a 45-6 TD/INT ratio (Brees is 46-14), and a 9.2 YPA (Brees is 8.3)????

Come on, you can't be that unknowledgeable of the NFL. Don't let your love for one player cloud your reason for another, and don't speak in ridiculous terms by using words such as "crap" regarding such things. While I am hoping Brees wins and can make a case for him to win, I am not upset if they give it to Rodgers. In fact, I think the three things Rodgers did better than Brees are the three most important stats for a QB.

I feel that Flynn throwing for the most yards and tds in a single game in Packers history should seal the deal for Brees.

Just my opinion though.

If he doesn't win this year, or hasn't with any of his other record breaking performance years....I really have to wonder what it would take for him to win. Getting the Saints to the first Super Bowl wasn't enough....

I admit that "crap" is a bit strong. I do feel that AR is the only other consideration, but I feel Brees deserves it more. He has set records that earned all the the previous holders the MVP.
Rodgers has a higher QB rating, but the QBR rating is a much better stat. It accounts for among other things, interceptions that are not the QB's fault, such as bouncing off a receivers hands, or the receiver blowing the route. Rodgers QBR is 1 point above Drew, a practical draw. Rodgers advantage comes from running the ball. I am not knocking this as a skill...just pointing out a fact.
When you notice how Flynn was able to succeed in the offense, it makes a person wonder about Rodgers value. Look back on 2008 when Brady was out and the Patriots won 10 games. Now look at the Colts without Manning. Who do you think is more valuable?

In 2009, Brees had a statiscal better year, and had the best QB rating than Manning. Manning wins the MVP because of 1 extra win. Is that right? Brees has broken ALL TIME records ths year, but AR is the clear cut MVP? You can pick at AR's year as much as Brees, but how do you discredit his production because of the QBR? I think the media wanted to give it to AR since the beginning, and hate that Brees is making this a hard vote.

This is a much better post, and I agree with you completely. The QBR number is a good stat that is not official yet, but it seems to be gaining some traction this year. That Rodgers is only 1 point higher than Brees is quite telling.

It's a load of crap imo, they had it given to AR months ago. I don't no what DB has to do to get one. No doubt AR is top end but look what MF did in the last game at the lions, he didn't miss a beat. Give AR he mvp and DB can have the consolation prize, the superbowl. Saints 2012.
