If one of your parents are black no way you coming out that light and with wavy hair. Unless his father was like 1/16th black and they trying to claim that BS like a lot like to do with the Indians. Thought I read the other day that his grandma on his dads side was black, and his dad was 50%; therefore, making him 25% black. Would still justifiably qualify and could explain his skin tone.

Back to OP: yes, that is actually the NFLs plan because they want to see minority opportunities continue to grow. Only way for the league to get more minority HCs is to get more minority coordinators. Unfortunately, the league felt the only way to do this was to put this incentive plan together and so far it appears that it may be working.

Does Houston get the same treatment since their DC got a HC job?

It’s not for me if he’s “dark enough”, it’s for NFL.

I don’t care if he’s purple, green, or rainbow. The NFL obviously does. They want BLACK coaches. They created a racist rule to hire black coaches. To improve their image and see black people on the sidelines coaching. Mike McDaniel doesn’t address that issue for them in the least. He can identify as whatever he wants. From all accounts he’s a smart offensive up and coming coach, so he should have been (and was hopefully) hired on his merits and not the color of skin.

But I’ve even seen articles from black and biracial authors who are now questioning if SF deserves two 3rd Round picks for this. This is textbook from liberals, but this is what happens when you over-legislate something. It was wrong to make a rule to hire somebody based off the color of your skin in the first place. That’s what’s gotten the NFL into this Flores type of situation. But now the optics of this are really bad. Now the NFL is rewarding white guys identifying as black with draft picks?

If I’m a black coaching candidate I’m pissed honestly. Especially Flores or Bienemy. The NFL (unjustly) set up a reward system for black coaches. Mike McDaniel doesn’t fit their optics for that. It’s unclear if it’s even his dad or grandpa or who is black, but to me that doesn’t matter. It’s meant to elevate black coaches who may have been overlooked maybe because of alleged racism, not to reward white guys with ancestors of color.

Again, as I’ve mentioned plenty of times - I think this rule is dumb BS anyway. But in their definition of it, it has no bearing here. Mike McDaniel has never been overlooked for a NFL job because of the color of his skin. His skin is white.

This has nothing to do with Mike McDaniel. It has to do with SF being compensated.

Mike McDaniel is 38 years old, and got hired for the first HC job he ever interviewed for. So I don’t think he’s missed out on any jobs for the color of his skin (which is white anyway).

I’d actually be curious (if the NFL really insists on going through with this) to see any documented proof that SF even knew that Mike McDaniel was even 25% black or whatever the percentage may be. Why would that have even come up in an interview?

I suppose it’s only because I hate the 49ers, and if this were the Jaguars I would not be on my soapbox so much. But I still think the underlying point is true. The Rooney Rule is BS to begin with. But even if we ignore that, Mike McDaniel has nothing to do with it being “activated”. No racist he’s encountered in his entire life has ever looked at mike McDaniel and thought, “well we can’t hire him, he’s black”.
