IMO, NE is just going to use the Saints to set Butler's market and then when NO makes an offer NE will counter and sign him to a longterm deal

No one is giving up a top 11 pick for Malcolm Butler and then paying big him big money.

That's the problem. Sure. I'll give absolutely give up #11 for him but he has to sign a rookie deal.

I'm glad you brought this up. The real question is, is there a team that would draft a 27 year old corner back, that will be matched up against #2 receivers more than #1's and will cost 13 million a year, in the first round?

That said CB wouldn't already have 3 years under his belt thus it would be ridiculous to give him 13 million a year. Butler is a proven commodity, the scenario you just made he would not be.

So no.

Even for a rookie contract, how many teams would use a first round pick on a 27 year old that they new would start but play against more #2 receivers as #1's. You would have possibly have some, but not many.
Edit: Maybe a small stroke Breesus, corrected...

Lol, no.
Butler was great but not thier best Corner.

quote:

Rowe provides a smaller sample size but has been the Patriots’ best cornerback this season. Butler allows bigger plays but also gets his hands on the football on over 20 percent of targets. Ryan only is allowing 6.4 yards per pass attempt. Jonathan Jones, an undrafted free agent, has come on recently as the Patriots’ No. 4 cornerback option. He’s been better than second-round pick Cyrus Jones.

LINK

[quote]Outside of Talib, there really hasn’t been a corner that has been consistently “shutdown,” but Malcolm Butler has had a fine season, outside of a couple of lapses. Against Miami back in Week 2, he surrendered 157 receiving yards, and he coughed up another 94 against Pittsburgh; beyond those games, he has given up 35 yards or fewer on six of his eight outings, and over the entire season, has allowed just 52.9 percent of passes into his coverage to be caught, despite occasionally being asked to track elite receivers.

Occasionally...
and (2015 analysis)
quote:

.... The one knock on Butler at this point is that he didn’t always cover the opposing team’s top receiver. That job was often left to Logan Ryan, while Butler covered the team’s second option. It worked out great for the Patriots, but it didn’t completely prove that Butler can handle the duty as a shutdown corner. That’s not to say he can’t; he just needs to prove it in 2016 — and he will. Butler is going to be around for a long, long time in this league and the Patriots will need to pay him accordingly sooner rather than later.

He didn't in 16 either. He played the left side, see the middle quote, edit...Link not quote...

frick this shite, I'd rather NO find an undrafted free agent like NE did instead of giving up a 1! Really, spend a pick in the top 3 rounds on a corner.

I'm not melting I'm just tired of waiting on this crap. If they are just trying to see what the market is for Butler this is a huge waste of time for the Saints. The CB market has dried up, draft is approaching. This needs to be resolved soon. It's annoying at this point.

It's not on the Pats or Saints. They had these talks already.

Like I said before it's now on Butler to decide what he wants to do next with his career, and it's not a decision he's taking lightly. Give him time. It's going to affect his whole life going forward.
