But when there a new CBA there will be a rookie salary cap which means you might not have to over pay these guys. Just get them ready for the future. Teams like the Redskins are not even releasing or trading Mcnabb until a CBA for insurance that they may have to stick with them another year. Com'on man

re-read nothing to do with salary...
In your hypothesis it would clearly have some QBs drafted far ahead of their rating. I think there is much case for NOT having as much push for QBs- maybe even lower. Like 2 before the Saints #24. I could see some trading back into the backend of Rd 1 to get them at market value.
I'm all for 4 QBs in the top 12 and the 3 OTs & G you have- that will only push good D guys down to the Saints. I just don't see that many as high as you have them.
Washington clearly will get rid of McNabb even with Grossman and Beck only. Vince Young will likely be a full fledged UFA, somebody will sign him- not to speak of lesser potential deals such as Kolb, Carson Palmer, Bulger, etc

so you over draft in value, say Mallett by at least a half round, if not a full round

Mike Lombardi has Aldon Smith going 10th overall.
guessing people are falling in love with his athleticism. That is a huge jump from your 24th spot.

well, it certainly doesn't help us. Not saying the media can really affect too much what the teams are thinking, but the more the media hypes up a player the more he gets evaluated possibly. I was hoping he would fly under the radar compared to the other DE's if that was possible.

I think that just applies to us not professional scout teams

I try to compile the opinions of the media guys I respect and that have a solid track record. 75% of these draft sites are just recycled garble that i could compile better. With that, I think he's the hottest pass rushing DE after Bowers and Quinn. Others more complete may go before him but you cannot discount the value of beastly rush guys.

1.Panthers.....Blaine Gabbert.....QB.....Missouri
I think QB here might be more possible than most see now. Gabbert is the safe pick. The higher risk with higher potential return is Newton tho. IF they did go QB I think it would be Cam man. He wouldn't be forced to start from day one/
2.Broncos......Da' Quan Bowers....DE....Clemson
Myself I have Quinn ahead of Bowers at DE. Dareus could be just as equal. And Peterson across from Bailey would be a perfect backend
3.Bills........Robert Quinn.......DE.....North Carolina
HC Chan Gailey is a huge mobile QB fan. With Fitzpatrick it would be an ideal situation for Newton to learn the ropes and not be rushed. I kinda personally like the idea of high profile CN being sent to Buffalo too. If not him, Dareus or Fairley in the middle look like better need/fits to me.
4.Bengals......A.J. Green.........WR.....Georgia
Perfect pick except it seems they are fully planning for no more Carson Palmer. If not AJ a QB could go here too.
5.Cardinals....Von Miller.........LB.....Texas A&M
a perfect value fit
6.Browns.......Marcell Dareus.....DT.....Alabama
meh, Peterson falling lower than this gets dicey to me
7.49ers........Patrick Peterson...CB.....LSU
yeah, if he was there but hard to see him that low for me. I think this is maybe the best fir for need and value for Gabbert.
8.Titans.......Jake Locker........QB.....Washington
prolly the most overvalued for the pick IMO so far. I can't imagine Locker and passing on Fairley.
9.Cowboys......Prince Amukamara...CB.....Nebraska
could be, I'd put JJ Watt is a better value/fit here. They're very weak at DE
10.Redskins....Cam Newton.........QB.....Auburn
I'd put QB very high for them too. Switching Locker and Newton more likely from wher ya have them IMO
11.Texans......Nick Fairley.......DT.....Auburn
This would be a no brainer but the lowest I can imagine Fairely at all is #8. I'd slip Amukamara as a perfect need/value pick to here.
12.Vikings.....Ryan Mallett.......QB.....Arkansas
Just my own belief is that they will go after a veteran QB (Kolb, Young, etc). If so, with Edwards gone and Griffin a no show a replacement pass rusher would fit for need and value
13.Lions.......Anthony Castonzo...OT.....Wisconsin
I see the first LT going here fo sho, which one is the only question. Tend to think Solder or Smith
14.Rams........Julio Jones........WR.....Alabama
15.Dolphins....Mark Ingram........RB.....Alabama
these are two of the most consensus mocked pick. Jones 100% if he is there. Ingram pretty high as a perfect need/value fit too
16.Jaguars.....J.J. Watt..........DE.....Wisconsin
DE fo sho, I see Watt closer to top 10. Cam Jordan looks like a potential all pro 3-4 5 tech DE here
17.Patriots....Aldon Smith.....DE.....Missouri
very reasonable, I tend to see Smith more likely gone already tho
18.Chargers....Akeem Ayers........LB.....UCLA
His stock is down IMO, more late 1st, I think they're in the mix for another great DE more likely
19.Giants......Tyron Smith........OT.....USC
fully agree on OT, again it's just that the order is not clearly defined
20.Buccaneers....Adrian Clayborn....DE.....Iowa
also definitely see them taking the best pass rushing DE here. In my first mock I had the Saints trading up to get to spot #19 ahead of them
21.Chiefs......Justin Houston.....LB.....Georgia
very good fit, the #3 DT might work too
22.Colts.......Mike Pouncey...G......Florida
reasonable but on a value basis I think they go the 3rd ranked OT before guard
23.Eagles......Gabe Carimi........OT.....Wisconsin
strong pick at this spot
24.Saints....Cameron Jordan.....DE.....Cal
I'd love it but think he'll be gone, say 85%. DEs are premium 1st Rd picks. He's a great all around stud if not premier in pass rush speed. I'm kinda liking the singular dimension of pass rushing if not as well rounded as Jordan. Say, move up for Aldon Smith or take Houston. Even with Rogers, a Paea or Wilkerson could be the BPA too. Wildcard is OT. If Charles Brown isn't deemed a LT answer then scoring a #2-4 ranked day one starter could be possible. Ayers or Martez Wilson? A starting playmaking OLB teamed with Casillias could go a long way in turning around in perhaps the weakest link on the team.

The Panthers usually seem to have a conservative approach in the draft IMO. Perhaps they change their strategy with a new coaching staff.

They took their first two picks on the D-line last year. Both those guys got injured. I agree they go D-Line again.

I'm thinking Houston or Kerrigan if they are available, Clayborn as well. Its been a long time since the Saints picked a LB in the first round. Defensive tackle doesn't seem to be out the question. I like Paea or Wilkerson if they went that route.

the one thing I think most agree on, is that there should be a dynamic day one starter for the D front 7 available. Who it is, is to be seen. It's hard to overstate how comforting it is though in how we can have confidence of our organization now. Clayborn, Kerrigan, Houston, Paea,... whoever. It's hard to believe I went through so many years just as a fan feeling I had a better take on who would be better for the team (and often did!, seriously). This is stacking up to be a nice class of what is available in the different rounds to what positions that could use some immediate upgrade.

Thanks for all the insight to both you guys. Im still tweaking it and it will probably change more before the draft gets here. I plan on having it down before they draft and beat all these so called mock experts at this little game.

Why has PP7 gone from a possible 1st to below top 5 on so many boards? As an LSU homer, that makes me sad :(

Some people think he will go higher as he may do. But I believe he goes 7th to the 49ers.
