The FO may be wrong on players, but they aren't stupid. For whatever reason they see more value in Griffin than Wilson. Why would a 3rd string QB be worth a player that many here hoped would be starting by now? Surely it's not because they like him as a backup, the Saints have shown pretty blatant disregard for the backup QB position and I also find it hard to believe that Griffin is the QB Payton finds intriguing enough to stick around after Brees retires. They must think they can trade him for more assets than it will take to replace Tez.

Wilson and Galette were both hurt during training camp. Will Smith was lost for the season soon as those two were about to come back. We traded for Harleson. Wilson wasn't able to go at the beginning of the year. This forced Ryan to play 4 man fronts. We've been playing mostly a 4-2-5 alignment, with Lofton and Hawthorne playing linebackers, Vaccaro being the extra DB, and Galette playing with his hand in the dirt.

Wilson has been effective at times as a blitzer, but he's really not a pass rusher. He can be easily taken care of by a OT because he lacks pass rushing moves outside of a speed rush, and he lacks lower body strength to push back or hold his ground against a lineman.

Griffin will be inactive on Sunday. Tez would have been inactive on Sunday. Again.

Larry Holder looks at the details of the move

Unfortunately for Wilson, he became the odd man out when Ryan implemented a four-man defensive front.

The 2011 third-round pick saw his snaps count decrease from last year with the shift in philosophy through the first five games. The writing was on the wall when the Saints signed linebacker Keyunta Dawson two weeks ago after Tennessee released him. Then the Saints activated Dawson against the Patriots after only being on the team for five days and sat Wilson down as a healthy scratch for the New England game.

Regardless, it's still disappointing considering the expectations we as fans had for him. I still think he can be a solid player and contributor in the league. Maybe just not in a 34 or maybe just not for the Saints.

JMO, but I think people are overthinking it if they think the Saints motives were anything other than not wanting to let go of young QB that they think might have a future.

Wilson looks like Tarzan, and while he doesn't play like Jane, he's not been particularly productive. The writing's been on the wall for the guy. We've brought in three guys from other teams/off the streets to take playing time from him since right before the season started. Haralson, Richardson had a stretch and now Keyunta Dwason.
It was a surprising move, but not a particularly "out of nowhere," one when we just look at the moves they've been making.

Even if the Saints just look at Griffin as a future backup, the move to keep him was worth it, given Wilson had already been replaced before they waived him.

It will be interesting to watch Dawson going forward. Maybe another surprise pickup that blossoms here. Just that he was here only a week and got a good amount of reps, then they drop Wilson, says as much about the upside of Dawson as it does the disappointment in Wilson.

Now if Vilma gets activated what move will correspond is the question.

True

Cadet wouldn't surprise me. Particularly if Ingram comes back.

They might try to slip Reddick or Sweeting through waivers to the PS. Sweeting might make it, Reddick less likely IMO.

With Sproles heading north of age 30 they might still have Cadet as a serious replacement. Sproles is UFA after 2014. Cadet just makes RFA in 2015.

To me it is obvious that we are looking to trade Griffin. Yall need to calm the frick down, we all wanted Tez to do awesome things but what has he done? Not a damn thing. The people making these moves know way more than any of us and they are in the position they are in for a reason. We have no reason to doubt them.

We're looking to trade a rookie, UDFA, practice squad/3rd string, QB?

I honestly thought he looked promising when in the game

This is all I was trying to say. He actually looked good in the snaps he got. Then some idiot jumped down my throat, and I was the bad guy.

I saw some of that too. So there was some evidence of skills.

Which is what I said. So you agree with me.

quote:

What we don't see near as much is the lowlights and the blown plays. We see a guy wide open but might often not really know who blew the coverage. This is the part where the football IQ comes in. In the NFL it might be more important to not blow plays than to make big plays. I'm thinking they just got tired of repeated mistakes.

What mistakes? All he did was rush the passer in the few plays he was in the game, and he was good at that. If anything, this has more to do with not running as much 3-4 as they thought they would run, not about his skill level.

quote:

One more- remember sometimes it just takes a player a while to put it together or to fit into the right situation. de la Puente was on 6 different rosters before becoming the fulltime center here. Lance Moore couldn't stick on the Browns Practice Squad.

Another point I made in all of this. A guy doesn't suck just because he gets cut.

Hey moron, the person you quoted pretty much said all the same stuff I was saying. I don't know where this went off the tracks, but seems majority of people actually agree with me on the main points I was making.

Never had issue with you. Just thought it was funny that you called me out for attacks when I really just went back at someone who insulted me.

I didn't follow his every snap, that might be. Maybe Hoodoo can enlighten us with some PFF premium insight. If he was never assigned any coverage or run defense maybe it is cuz he only disappointed in those in practice

Few if any here had any major diss on MW imo. Disappointed and move on. Take the upside of Dawson making that big of an impression so quickly along with the value of Griffin being legitimized not only from his promotion but other teams wanting him on their 53.

It's the opposite actually. Again, Saints don't run a 3-4. The few times they did is the few times he played. I'm guessing it will be a 3-4 team that picks him up.

Calm down guy.

Tez is gone. And we have our replacement for Brees. Obviously a shell to be traded while he still has value

Just for good measure- LBs picked before MW in 2011-
Jonas Mouton SD- unmitigated total flop, IRed for this yr, may never see the NFL again
Dontay Moch CIN- never impressed and plenty of injuries, cut last year, hanging on with AZ
Nate Irving DEN- still there, 3 starts, 0 sacks

Justin Houston was drafted two spots ahead of Wilson. Imagine if we got him instead.
